A proposal in the works;

1. Reach out to the victim and their family to offer apologies, psychological help and pastoral counseling.

2.Immediately remove the priest from his ministry.

3.Notify civil authorities.

4.Send the person to a therapeutic institution for evaluation.

5.Turn the case over to a diocesan review board of mostly lay people (parents, doctors, lawyers, etc.) and let it make a recommendation to the bishop.

This is set up for failure. So much for the "never once let it be named among you" instructions.
My stomach turns at the very thoughts of this.
I want to tip some tables over really bad right now!

I'm Catholic (although my faith in the church has never been too strong, but I do believe in God and his teachings)but I'm disgusted at the way these horrible inviduals are only going to get a slap on the wrist for IMO one of the worst things you can ever do in your life. These men are supposed to represent the church, Jesus Christ and God. I don't care who or what they are, the President, the Pope, a doctor or even a factory worker they all deserve the same treatment, irrelevant of their past work (unless they are previous offenders). I believe they should be locked up for life and if possible in extreme cases (if it has happened more then once or twice) the person should be excecuted. I don't care if it's harsh or rude but that that's my opinion. No child should EVER be assaulted in any way (in any serious way, discipline is needed), they don't deserve it and that is the bottom line.
I hope that hypocritical (swear-word) get's his soon. Let justice truly be served.

Hear Hear Sigmar - You're absolutely right - except perhaps on the punishment - I think that they should start with castration - then lock the ******* up and throw away the key - regardless regardless of the profession of the offender.

We've just had a case in Denmark where the parents of a nine-year-old girl molested her and sold the pictures on the internet - they even took orders on what kind of abuse that should be on the pictures!

It's a sick, sick world we live in

let's start with the problem of gay's getting marige rights.
then let's look at that posibility that petifiles get they're
start buy being "gay". now we have gay petifiles as chathlic
priest's!!! all of you have blasted the bible angle and not

we want the gay's out of the church.
we want the gay's out of the boy scouts.
now will we get the gay's out the hollywood and tv prime time
....lol... oh no..we cant do any thing like anti gay cleaning

we've got the exact same type of evil wee sod over here and the law says you can't burn them something to do with THEIR human right (HMMMMM.....the words WHAT ABOUT THE VICTIM? spring to mind)
very few cases actually get to trial (although more cases have been raised resently)because of the trauma, or the " A ("insert authority figure")!,SURELY NOT?" syndrome.
the church don't care about the corruption of the young (maybe at one time, but now it's just greed, IF IT WASN'T, THEN THEY (the clergy) WOULDN'T FEEL THE NEED FOR GOLD PRAYER HUTS (chapels) WHILE 70 % OF THEIR SUPPORTERS, THEIR BELIEVERS, EAKE OUT A PAULTRY EXISTANCE BELOW THE POVERY LINE)
but then again why would the devout, support a church that worships a god, who would condone this.(the church seems to believe that god would accept this, otherwise they would stand, and let human fairness be done. (TIME TO GET ANOTHER GOD),(or at least another church that doesn't sign a Treaty of Non Involvment with a particular mad dictator during a particular world war.).
and the governments,...all their community works and "care for the children" programs don't matter a damn when they refuse to do anything when it explodes in their face.
i say, (and i have been called "forward" at times), that we must make them, by any means neccessary, stop praying on the children, at what should be for THEM, the happiest, most carefree time of their lives (and lets face it, life can be hard), and who are for US, the future.
do you want your children to grow up and adopt the same warped values and sensabilities, that a society whose largest part of it's base is AFFECTED by abuse, would obviously evolve. (the children who will become adults and grow to what should be full healthy maturity, to lead our society onwards proudly, instead of becoming emotionally stunted misfits who are so screwed up inside that they can never bond with anyone, or have a proper loving relationship, either sexual or platonic in nature, because of the guilt and self loathing that will be with them for the rest of their lives, WHETHER OR NOT they get the help that they, so badly need.

so i say, get rid of them, (anyone who would maliciously harm ANYONE, in a manner as to have such greiviouly unsettling effects as this subject.), get rid of them, anyway you want to do it. NIKE.

If i have offended anyone because of:-

a) i have offended your religion, then before you condemn me, think about what your god would want for the children.

or:

b) other, presumably it's because of my "BURN THEM" reference.... well.. burn them, brick them, throw them off buildings for sport, bait them instead of foxes, hours of fun for all the family.
these THINGS know what they do, most of them know perfectly well the difference between good and bad, right and wrong,(the rest are incurable psychopaths who will run around raping and killing until they die), they are intelligent, they flock together, they hide. if they act like roaches, then treat them as such.

This is not new... nor will it be handled with expediency. The Church has never seen fit to unilaterally bestow a punishment on something they have known about for decades.

I was a foster parent for a child who was sexually molested for 10 years before she got out of the house. I have seen many adults who have had abuse of this sort on them, and they never really deal well with it. The many people this has happened to are scarred for life because of what is hushed up or not dealt with.

I am a pacifist in the most fundamental sense... but I felt like killing the man who did this to my foster child with my bare hands. This is an unconscienable act, and to repeatedly do ANYTHING to another person that causes harm when you are in a position of trust is unspeakably abhorrent.

What should be done? As law abiding and peace loving as I am about almost everything else... vigilante justice does not bother me on this one.

When the issue is personal and in your life, the emotions become stronger than logic. The law won't help and the Church is bound up in its own politics.... send a mercenary in there.
