Oh, no, I may be Canadian! Just see:

You eat chocolate bars, not candy bars.

You know that a pike is a type of fish, not part of a highway.

You drive on a highway, not a freeway.

You brag to Americans that: Jim Carrey, Michael J. Fox, John Candy, William Shatner, Tom Green, Matthew Perry, Mike Myers, & many more, are Canadians.

You know how to pronounce and spell "Saskatchewan".
Just one question:

Quote:
You know that when it's 25 degrees outside, it's a warm day.
This could depend upon whether this is Fahrenheit or Centigrade. 25ºF is cold, but 25ºC is actually warm. So which one is it? Is this a joke on the metric system or the year-round cold in Canada? It could be both...

"Eh?" is a very important part of your vocabulary, and is more polite than, "Huh?"

Applies to us Brits as well!

So its true in the North American sub-continent as well! The Northern people always love gravy! Don't know why, its just the way things are...

I'm from Michigan too, and most of those things apply to me. And I most definitely say pop. If I asked for a soda here, I'd get a box of baking soda.

Cos even though he is a dick, Freddy Got Fingered still makes me laugh, just because its so stupid!

Plus he's taken the award for best name for a film ever! Lol, it makes people cringe.

Hi mum, just rented Freddie Got Fingered!"

Lol, she watched it with me and my Dad, and thought it sucked ass. My dad liked it though, and for some reason I bought it on DVD!

"A sign that you might be Canadian is that when it's 25 degrees outside it is a warm day."
The default of the thread is that the person is (or suspects they are) a Canadian, so there is no choice in the matter of temperature scale - it is Celcius that is being referred to because Canada is a metric country.

Great thread by the way - but I have no idea why you guys and gals call a "softdrink" a soda or a pop .

It's a 'fizzy drink' to me, if we're being specific. Soft drink could be Coke (not Cola LOL) or squash (non fizzy sweetened fruit drink, not a type of pumpkin-like vegetable), or fruit juice.

Soda is Bicarbonate of Soda, although I'd more commonly call it Bicarb (soda is neither washing powder nor a drink). Pike is definitely a fish. It's neither highway or freeway, it's a motorway.

Chips are not wafer thin slices of fried potato that you buy in a bag (I would call them crisps), they are great big fat chunks of potato that are deep fried (preferably twice) until they're crispy on the outside and soft in the middle, and you eat them hot covered with salt and vinegar, and if you're feeling decadent, ketchup or brown sauce or gravy or mushy peas or curry sauce, maybe with a pickled egg or a pickled onion or a gherkin (see below). They bear no relation to their anaemic stick-thin cousin, French Fries.

Pickle is a jar of chopped vegetables pickled in sugar and vinegar until it's a nice thick dark brown lumpy tangy stuff that you eat with cheese or cold meats or in a sandwich. Those things that our US friends call pickles, we call gherkins, or wallies if you're up north.
