Also I like breach, enemy mages get hacked to pieces with this cast on them.

It stacks wonderfully with Greater Malison, though.

My own choice is ADHW. Noone can count the damage I delivered upon the heads of my time-stopped enemies with that spell Of course, it needs some equipment and some preparation spells (from ToB ) to be used at its full potential, but still, even in SoA, its a great spell.

Most effective low level spell for me is Glitterdust ! Miniature version of Nature's Beauty. Also Slow and Emotion.

My favorite is ADHW although without breach life would be very difficult.

NRD all the way.
My favorite moment with it was when I was in a confrontation with a powerful wizard, cast NRD shaped into Breach (since I didn't have that memorized), and got the, "Oops... Is that a demon?" result. The wizard we were fighting turned his attention on the demon. They whittled away at each other. The demon eventually killed him, but had been softened up enough that Minsc took it down with no problem.

my favorite changes almost every playing session. NRD is great... some of the time. i've got my wild mage into ToB so NRD works a lot of the time as desired when casting chaos sheild first.
as my fighter/mage/theif i just started on my first solo attempt through SoA, i'd have to say invisibility, haste, or slow. i really have started to like spells that worsen the enemies stats like glitterdust, greater malison, slow, and improved invisibility(this one cast on me not them). dulouz. |

Hmmm, let's start with Hold Monster, a level 5 Mage spell. Now give it a save penalty of -2, a wide area of effect, AND have it keep on applying its effect to everything in that area round after round. Now let's even allow you to learn a level 4 Summon spell that creates monsters for you that are immune to its effects. Only one teensy downside: you can get caught in the area as well. You'd expect the resulting "Super-Hold Monster" spell to be, say, level 7 at least. But in SOA you get it at spell level 2. Yep, I'm talking about Web.
I love Web so much that it affects my character design: all my characters (even the tanks) get at least proficiency, and preferably specialization, in a ranged weapon to take maximum advantage of it. At higher levels, of course, many monsters are immune or make their save, but it's still hands down my favorite spell.

Spell Sequencer and Spell Trigger. You can do a hell of a lot with them, and it's fun tailoring combos to deal with a variety of situations.
