It strikes me that this could be used to transfer items between characters that would otherwise be out of range of one another. Two people would have a copy of the same container; person A would put an item in his, and person B could remove it from the one in his possession. I'm not sure what the tactical implications would be, but it would be a way around the "the character is too far away" problem. One guy on recon could have access to whatever the rest of the party has, but everyone else stays out of harm's way.
