You'll find some of your weapons and items back later in bgII. However if you have the golden pantaloons you can find them behind a trapped painting in the one of the first rooms. Also, you can keep your items by pressing pause just before bgII begins then you can take your items out of your inventory and place them on the ground. If you play a pally you should really keep the cloack of balduran.

Who the hell would NOT keep the Cloak of Balduran??? The only reason I wouldn't have it on my main character is if he was a Thief, as Thieves really should wear Algernon's cloak.
