Despite it's proper place in the English language, I can tell you that word will not be used where I'm from even if you are referring to a tangled mass of roots and decayed remains of sedges projecting from a swamp.

That word would result, at best, in a look of disgust and thoughts about poor parenting, while the worst result might well be physical injury or death.

A holocaust was essentially an ancient Greek celebratory bonfire... They'd build up a great big pyre and set the mother on fire. Good fun apparently, especially when lots of wine was involved. Pity the term got applied to genocidal extermination. Ah well.
