Armor like that would probably appear one in every 200-300 game sessions. Not many people have that much time
And for the people that WILL buy the item, since they're the ones that probably play day and night, the question should be.. Where does the money come from since they dont have jobs? Or do they make a living from selling virtual items?
Good God if I had an item like that I'd sell it too!
Anyone wanna buy my improved Sword of Unholy Megadeth Demonslaying Polkadotted Avenging?

I actually play EverQuest, and have for two years. It's been an on-going debate, and Verant (the GM's of EQ) actually had to almost sue E-bay for infringement rights. Everyone was selling stuff on-line and Verant actually said since it was in their game that is was THEIRS! Pretty funny stuff.

There are some single items in that game that go for 1k USD.

If you had several characters in high levels on an account with good gear, I've actually seen some accounts go for upwards of 5k.

NUTS!

My best friend sold his EQ character for 1000 dollars. Heh, in retrospect though it took him nearly 500 dollars of monthly charges to get that far

DANG! This is when it stops being a game and starts becoming an obsession. Heck, download a free hex editor and learn to "hack" if you're so danged desperate. What a bunch of munchkins! *sigh*

You cant hack, that's just it.

In these games, you can only earn these items/levels/skills in REAL TIME. No hacking is available. That's why they cost so much. (even though it is still stupid)

Is this the point when a game has gone too far?
I read about that item that is for sale a bit more, and found that you need to be lvl 85 to use it... Anyone who can get that far, on closed b.net (online all the time)... Well that tells a story in itself.
I don't hold anything against anyone who has done that, I just wonder about time management and stuff...

Prospective buyer of item: "Yess!!!!! Now I have the ultimate item in the game I can... Kill more things!!! Even more Easily!! Never mind that I can't eat or pay for the phone bill anymore, I have the best armour in the game!!!

What's worse to consider is thus: what will it matter 5 years from now? less even?
