Speaks for me, too. I personally don't care for music all that much, but I like reading what someone writes who is passionate. Good luck, Yorick, and may God bless you.

No worries Lioness. Feel free to copy it if you like. Read it to yourself when you feel despondent about your ability/success.

All the best with what you choose to do Lioness. Good on you for having a go.

Attalus! Good on you bro, thanks mate.

Agreed.

As long as it's not a *duty* like a day job you don't like. As Fripp of King Crimson sez "be a professional musician only if there is no choice". I should know. I'm happier doing music by (and for) myself. 'Course if you LIKE dealing with the band/audience thing, that's cool . Whatever you like. Music's flexible in that way.

[If you're playing electric guitar, just try to make sure you're playing a GUITAR, not a floor/cabinet full of effects. You CAN get special effects without a rack if you figure out the secrets. More fun and costs less that way too ]

Try to learn some type of instrument, it opens up your brain. I think it might raise your DEX, personally

Or, in the case of drums... like I play... it improves your co-ordination and sheer limb speed... ya gotta love the drums...

Lioness - good for you girl!

I taught myself to play guitar, it is great fun although it hurts at first Word of advice - don't burst the blisters it hurts even more, your fingers will toughen up quickly enough.

Yorick gave you some great advice. It is fun to play it by yourself, but it's even more fun to find like minded people and make music. It's also the best way to improve. Above all, enjoy it!

I want to learn to play sax. Have a bit of a problem in that they are *very* expensive to go and buy, have decided that when I get a job I'm going to rent one, see how I get on with it. Something I've always wanted to do

I totally agree with you. I play the piano/keyboard, but I am still learning. Music is great. I took it as a GCSE course and although it is hard, it is rewarding when you hear an original composition made by yourself and everything is as you want it.

When it comes to listening to music, I don't mind what type of music I listen to; mosher, pop, jazz, I like it all.

Speaking of GCSE music, Gromnir, in my school i find it amusing that there is NO ONE doing music as a subject
There's always time. It's a matter of priorities.

17 is certainly not to late to start learning an instrument. I only picked up the guitar when I was about 18 or so. I'm certainly not as good as my friend Ben (who is absolutely brilliant) - he's been playing since he was six and is one of the best guitarists to leave Australia - but I have found my own guitaring 'niche' and have certain strengths.
