I think angelofdeath was pointing out not that you should dual sooner but that level 13 is not a good level to dual at since you don't get a kensai bonus at that level and you don't get a new profiency at that level. either 12 or 15 would be better. If you go 15 though you pretty much are playing all of SoA as a kensai. Personally I wouldn't do it unless you REALLY are going to depend on that char for melee duty (I use my kensai mage for melee but I have 3 other strong melee npcs so he also does aton of spellcasting).

Dual class at level 13 definately because you will gain an extra 1/2 attack per round. Well worth it for the sake of one extra level.

Also katana is very smart for a kensai, dual-wielding Celestial Fire and another sweet long weapon

Thanks all for your suggestions.
In the end, I decided to dual at level 10 instead because... In TOB, in addition to those great level 10 spells, I think other special abilities the mage gains include additional 6th, 7th and 8th level spells. So the lower you dual, the more additional spells you can gain later. As a mage, I prefer to specialise in what I'm supposed to be good at, so decided to forego fighting abilities in favour of spellcasting ones. |

Sorry if the above was a spoiler for any of you, but I tried including a spoiler banner and it just would not work!!!
Very sorry, again. |
