And then there's Orrick's goblin apprentice from IWD1 who is also in the Mage Tower of the Hand in IWD2.

But the primary connection is that I&M's father is Belhifet, the big baddie from IWD1 and, IIRC, Mother Egenia, the preistess of Ilmater who was captured and held on the 2nd level of Dragon's Eye in IWD1, is I&M's mother.

Wait a minute, it has been awhile since I played the game but wasn't Mother Egenia the one who rescued I&M's mother, and when I&M's mother killed herself after they were born Mother Egenia raised them as her own. I think there real mother is Maiden Ilmadia but I would need to play the game to be sure, Mother Egenia is just the foster mother that I&M was belived to have murdered by the town.
