LOL!
So...let's see if I've got this right... "Salty spread" that you put on bread sounds to me like peanut butter. Similar? Hmmm...I think I'm going to have to try and turn some up here in the US. If the Aussies and NZers like it...it can't be all that bad...can it? ------------------ Now where did I leave that doughnut?! |

Every now and again I get nostalgic and long to listen to a song or two of theirs. Unfortunately, my copy of their album is on vinyl and I don't have a record player. ------------------ onthepequod |

Try using one of the many MP3 search programs availiable(Napster and stuff like it), there's quite a big chance that you can find what you are looking for there.

Marmite and Vegemite are one of those things that you either love or hate. I love them - they are very popular in Britain too, but Marmite is more well known here. They are NOTHING like peanut butter at all!
Marmite - yeast extract, black, thick, sharp salty malt flavour, burns the skin off the inside of your mouth, great on hot toast. Vegemite - similar to Marmite, but paler colour and slightly different flavour. ------------------ Time is an illusion. Lunchtime doubly so. Epona of The Laughing Hyenas |

Vegimite should be used either to morter bricks together or poison your enemies. It is foul stuff.

One mans meat is another mans poison, as always ..
More facts about Vegemite. Most Aussie kids were/are raised on Vegemite. The yeast used in Vegemite is a by-product from brewing beer. It is usually served spread very thinly on toast or dry biscuits. I suspect many people unfamilar with Vegemite spread either try it straight from the jar, or spread it thickly on bread or whatever. No wonder they say it tastes foul, served like this !! It is very rich in B group vitamins, ( and provides a good pick me after a hangover ) In Australia, you can also buy cheese slices with Vegemite mixed into the cheese. The salt content of Vegemite has been reduced several times over the last 10 years or so. Vegemite tastes nothing like licorice !! It is also quite different from Marmite. Marmite has a sweet taste. Vegemite is often used to add a richer flavour to soups, stews, or casseroles. --------------------------------------------------------------- "Alas, the dog could not enter the kingdom of heaven ... |

I seem to remember Yorick telling me that, however curious and adventurous I may be, I really didn't want to try vegemite at breakfast ...
