Did you, by chance, attempt to equip the Vampire's Ring? Without the Heuristic patch this action will immediately crash the game.

Yeh, it's back up, I mean the forum, not my game. Not I didn't try to equip with the vampire ring. At least I don't think so. Where do you get it? What I am going to do it this. I got a cdrw for xmas. I saved my games on a disk and will try the down load. Thanks

Hi Amber!

You get the Vampire Ring from Adrianna in Skull Castle. She gives you a quest and offers you one of two rewards - the ring is one of them. In the unpatched game, equipping the ring will cause the game to crash.

Hi Saz,

I'm a little bit frustrated...

I've managed to get through the whole game (thus far) without any too drastic tech dramas, but now it's freezing at the Cet/Kerah confrontation after activating the portal in Cet's pyramid.

I have browsed through the tech help listings and tried a few options. I even installed the patch, to no avail. Increased my swap file, lowered the graphics settings - still it freezes. So near and yet so far!!!

My system is pretty old - PII 266, 192Mb RAM, 8Mb Voodoo II 3D card. Hoping to upgrade soon, but $$ pretty scarce right now. I think I am running Direct X 8 but not sure.. maybe this is the prob?

Any advice would be MOST appreciated.

Hi,
I am at the beginning of a new quest, and trying to give Mekdawa the toad elixer. However, no matter what I do, a soon as I have the elixer select to "give" the game crashes when my cursor 'touches' Mekdawa's graphic. Has anyone experienced this before?

My info:

OS: Win2000 [I know this is not ideal]
Patch 1.0 installed?: Yes
CPU: PIII 600
RAM: 128MB
3D Card: Rage Mobility 128 AGP 2X [8MB, I think]
DirectX: 8.0 [this might be my problem?]
Note: This is a laptop, but should not matter.
Side Note: At certain times my screen goes partially black and I must do something to 'refresh' it such as bring up the character screen.

Any help would be much appreciated,

I am having more trouble with this game then ever. I have fixed the vurtual dub problem but now i have a problem with the crypt, I CAN'T GO INTO IT! Nomatter what i do or howmany times i do it the game crashes with some memory problem! Please save me!!!! I want to pla more! I want to go past the beginning!
Oh yeah PS: at the beggining when the "travler" *caugh*assassin*caugh* talks to you if you kill him and you have a full party each char gets a little over 3000 experiance, it is only 3 levels but its better then none!

More trouble, At the crypt I get this error message during the loading time after pulling the lever.

The instruction at 0041783d referenced Memory at 079a9758
The memory could not be read from

Click OK to terminate the application

And I also sent my saved game to Wyv and she put me inside the cypt and now i get this message if i try to load that game!

I also tried uninstalling and reinstalling the game on Max and min installation, I also tried taking the files off the install disk and putting them into the W&W file (I didnt just replace them, I saved the orginal files and didnt remove any files just had other files put ontop. I also tried starting a new game and I got this message at the bottom of the game screen

DEEP6: TRANROTIDX TRANSLATION MISMATCH

I don'tknow whats wrong and I am hoping you do, I already sent an e-mail to Activision and got a response, they do not know what is wrong and know no way to fix it... I have also asked wyv to hack my games the Signet ring and she, I beleive, is going to. Please try and help me and I will do whatever you or anyother asks that just might help. Thank you for your time. Wyvern I thank you greatly for the amount of time you have spent on my one game for me.

You really MUST include information about your machine for anyone to be able to help you.

Type of computer, OS, memory, Vid Card, version of DirectX, anything about your hardware that might be part of the problem.

Hi Ryan!!

Seems like our techie gurus are all on vacation or something. I'm no expert but will at least reply!
Win2K is known to cause some problems but the solutions for those have been posted earlier in this thread. You should be okay as far as that goes.
DirectX 8 may be the cause of the crashes - if frequently has been. There are instructions earlier in the thread on how to downgrade to DirectX 7. You might give that a try and see if it solves your problem.

As for the screen blacking out now and then, I don't know what causes that. I have had that happen on some of the games that players have sent to me when they needed an item hack and I know how annoying it can be! Wish I knew what the cause/solution was.

Are you running in software mode?

If you still can't give the potion to the toad, send me a copy of your gamexx.sav ZIPPED or RARed and I'll see if I can't at least get that done for you so you can continue.
