Dragon Revived, Chapter 1- Surprises from the Past

Gus prepared to cast a vacuum sphere on the creature the second he saw it...

The creature herd the pursuit behind him, excellent it thought, after running 50 paces into the woods it leapt 90 degrees to the left, there was a moderate sized deadfall that would slow the creatures following it, whatever they were they were definitely fast, but before they could hope to bring down the huge mantis they would have to catch her. As she landed, breaking though several branches on her trip, she took off in a 45 degree andgle to the right (basically heading slightly left of the original direction). The ambush would take down one or two of the flesh-bags.

Arlyth grumbled inwardly, but did as he was bade. He moved his stallion as ordered, and mentally considered his options. When the Thri-keen emerged - he'd blast the thing. He hated Thri-keen. Evil wretches.

Alliene stopped her gelding abruptly at the drop-off, not wanting to break his legs. She dismounted and stood at the edge, peering down into the trees. She could see the snapped branches from the kreen's fall, but not the mantis.

When the rest reached her, Alaerth hopped off Moon Shadow and stood next to Alliene.
"Since it dropped down there, I doubt it is a danger to anything. Do you still want to follow it?" She asked him.
"Yes. It may come back, and eventually find its way to the castle, or to the stables in the night, and decide to eat some of our horses."
Alliene huffed, "Well you'll have to leave the horses here then, I don't think theres a way around it." She hopped off the ledge, Alaerth close behind her.
Alae sighed and slid off Star Shadow, giving the mare a pat, "Well, you are war horses, Iguess if it comes back you'll be able to kick and bite it." The two horses nodded, and Alae signaled to Gus and Arlyth, "Come on, the drop isnt that far." She followed after her brother and aunt to find them peering at the small tracks of the kreen's feet. Arlyth was a ranger, he could probably track better than them.

Arlyth walked silently over to Alae, and asked, "Yes Cousin? What would you have me do?" his tone was respectful and polite, but his eyes were elsewhere. He seemed to be searching for the Thri-kreen's tracks. He was not a happy bunny.

Alliene heard Arlyth and signaled to him impatiently,
"The kreen landed here, and the tracks go off that way. If you happen to see it, don't attack unless I say." She stood and crossed her arms, waiting to follow him

Arlyth snarled, "Yes Matron." his tone was angry, but respectful. Following the Thri-kreen's tracks, he lead the party down into the underbush somewhat... then he stopped, looked around, and guestured that they fan out somewhat. He hide within the shadows and move silently around, stalking the Kreen.

Gus was distraught. He could try and get a birds eye view to identify the situation, but he might risk hitting a tree or being blown away from the party. Instead he decided to cast empty mind, awakening in him the ability to drown out all of the surrounding noise. The air currents gently slid across the dead air packed that surrounded his skin, and he could hear an amplification of all of the surrounding sounds.

*edit: OOC: It's a similar effect to being submerged in water with sound going on in it.

Besides the rustling of the movements from his party, and the stomping from the horses above, Gus could detect a different one...something moving at a relativley fast speed, on four legs. He told the others this, and as Arlyth suggested, they fanned out and moved forward. They were catching up.

Gus decided to head in the direction the sound was comming from on foot.
