Nacht's going to ask them about that, harley! I did get a reply saying the support person will check things out today- I showed him what I got when I went to the site and asked if I need to do anything specific to get things going or are we just waiting on propogation of the dns.

Cloudy, I know how to do plant propogation. Maybe that will help. Do you want me to send you some root stimulator. If you get the website rooted really well, I bet it won't blow away in the future.

LOLOLOL! Sure and while you're at it, can you take out the crabapple (Guinevere) that the rabbits girdled this past winter so we can have the new one planted?

I figure I'll send Nacht in after today If all else fails, we can threaten a muppet invasion!

Guinivere's girdle! Squire bring me my gloves and shovel. We shall free her from the constraint of the soil and sent up a smoke that shall reach the heavens. (Translation: We will dig that deader up and throw the wood on the fire.)

Yah, thanks to 3 foot snow piles and our failure to cover the trunk up that high, the rabbits went nuts and ate an 8 inch ring around it Poor thing...we've having a tree company take it out, but they are really poor at customer service and showing up! May have to try another- the nursery that's planting the new one won't remove a tree that's been in for 5 yrs.

One thing though, the 'dead' tree is covered in leaves and has suckers coming up like crazy (probably the root stock). I would have thought it would be dead as a doorknob by now- no leaves or such.

Well, the hosting company definatly would NOT want the site rooted! Bad things happen unauthorized people root a system - plenty of room to play unattended ...

Cloudy, by this time, they should be looking to comp you some hosting fees back. They are providing very poor service. It's not a DNS thing either. Entering your domain url gets you to that directory structure. That is what a web server displays when there is no initial web page to send (index.htm in Appatche's case). When doing whatever work they did to your server, they blew The Oasis out of cyberspace. Your web site basically does not exist. They need to either load it from a back up or you need to recreate it.

This should not have happened when doing the server upgrade. Also, there should not have been a DNS issue either. The root DNS servers should be pointing to their DNS server. Since your domain is registered to their network, the Net can find them. Making a change to their own network would not affect the rest of the world finding them - they would only need to update their own DNS servers and routing tables.

Amen, brother. I think they did something stupid and are trying to cover it up.

NS, the way they explained it to me was that NOC was moving our domain and we were told on Friday it would take 48 or so hours to propogate-

Granted I wasn't exactly sure what that (move)entailed, but at one point we DID get into the files and the basics were there, although what's happening with the actual posts, is anyone's guess- the main page IS there though, as the support guys saw it and read it back to me and Nacht has been in by using the ip.

If we end up having to start from scratch, I'll be very unhappy. The only silver lining in THAT cloud is we might be able to load the mod for extra smilies showing in the reply menus (has to be done on a fresh install we discovered). The host site backs up every 24 hrs so it shouldn't be a problem, but if it did work that way, I'd have learned my lesson to back up the site myself on a weekly/daily basis.
