Eilonwy

The cold bitter night air bit on her hands which seemed quite frozen and dry. Gripping the reins as tightly as she could, she allowed her mind to wander on as they covered mile after mile of forestry-covered land. Cyrus would have no problem with vision at night, but she was certainly following him blindly now, for the stray stars above did nothing to illuminate the dark surroundings which shrouded this merry band.

Perhaps I was wrong... we're not quite 'merry'... ~ Grinning in spite of herself ~ I wonder how Mister Grumpy is faring. ~ She turned towards the left, almost at the same time that he turned to face her. Feeling her cheeks flame for some unexplainable reason, she glanced away, awfully glad that Lady Night was a perfect camouflage for this moment of weakness.

Yet such was his magnetic presence now, that she could not resist hazarding another glimpse at him. It happened again! He was staring at her too! Her lips parted, but uttered no words. It was strange; what could he mean by this? She could not make out his intentions, certainly for the reason he would not be able to discern her own.

A little troubled, she spurred her stallion on, striving to keep up with Cyrus.

Aragorn

He had continued to ride on in silence, but what was there to say? Yet mile after mile of unchanging landscape was threatening to send him to the depths of peaceful slumber. So he had looked about idly, avoiding Eilonwy's provocative gaze as far as possible. He had almost succeeded, but for once.

When it happened, he was startled beyond his own belief. There was something about her unfeigned expression that appealed to him. Perhaps, it was this unconquered spirit and yet womanly grace with which she rode the horse - she was neither domineering like Ursula, nor overtly feminine and submissive as Fantine. It was fresh, undefinable.

And so, he had risked another peek, only to fall prey to her girlish charm. Shaking these disturbing thoughts away, he began to make an effort to speak to Daniel Silverfall. But finding the young man to be almost as taciturn as himself - after all, they were but strangers - he turned quiet moments later.

The party continued on its way, led by the charismatic half-elf.

Merrick & Sulwe Shadowfall
All the girls began snickering again as Sulwe let out a mocking "oof". In a heartbeat all but Sulwe left you though, as guests began pouring into the tavern. Being jostled even more that you had been was Lowell Foresthide, his heavy wife Kalia laughing at his side. Lowell, a slightly scrawny darkly complected man, had an indescribable nervousness in his near black eyes that seemed to seep into his every action. He was guarding Kalia like a mother wolf. Kalia however seemed quite jubilant, and was waving away Lowell's too-close guard at every turn. After a moment Aoln brought out mass quantities of food and drink, and several of the other men were urging young man Foresthide toward the alcohol. Striding towards you now was a dark figure, with Sulwe's black hair and silver-black eyes. In fact, you could place quite a remarkable resemblance between the two... This elf strode straight up and glared down at the lady on your lap. "Sulwe, sister, the party has only just begun!" The man's dark eyes traced up to you, though he was still addressing Sulwe. "Please don't tell me you are drunk already." Sulwe's cheeks turned bright red and her gaze fell to the floor. "N-no Merrick. I was just..."

Cyrus Nightblade
Cyrus had been watching this entire episode from the corner of his eye, and found himself thoroughly amused by the entire thing. Here was Aragorn, the stuffy paladin, checking out a woman. And here was Eilonwy, the wildly outspoken sprite of a girl, bent on the destruction of Aragorn's ego, fleeing towards him in embarassment. He couldn't help but cackle as the lady pulled up next to him. Oh this is just too precious NOT to meddle! Besides, he decided, the party's in a dreary mood. Might as well give 'em a nudge. When Eilonwy was trotting directly next to him, he leaned over in the saddle, almost close enough to rest his head on her shoulder and asked innocently, "Eilonwy, dear one, are you running a fever? My infravision's got you brighter than strawberries." He sat up in the saddle and craned his neck back toward Aragorn. "But ey, what do you think buddy? Think she's... Hot?" He stifled a snicker with his hand, waiting for Aragorn's glares and Eilonwy's slaps.

I already didn't like the man, even though we were yet to be introduced, but I still wanted to avoid confrontation. "She's not drunk," I said. "It was my invitation, and it was also her choice. Now, do you have something else to discuss or another way to embarrass Sulwe here, or are you going to be dismissed?"

Merrick & Sulwe Shadowfall
Merrick's dark eyes shot daggers into you. "You have no right to be inveigling my sister-" Sulwe cut in before he could finish, looking rather ashamed of herself and losing the intelligent confidence she'd had before. She unwrapped your arms and stood up, not looking her brother in the eyes. "Please Merrick, don't make a scene. I'll just go..." Merrick shook his head firmly, gripping Sulwe's wrist and glaring at you. His voice was harsh and protective. "Listen up you brazen little bastard, I don't want you anywhere near my sister. You hear me?!"

I returned his glare even harsher, trying to make myself intimidating. In an effort to add to the threat I lightly rested my hand on the hilt of my new blade. With my voice lowered to a whisper I said, "Do you seriously think I'm scared of you? Do you think that you have any control over me? Sir, I don't think you know who you're dealing with here." I backed off and relaxed, winking at Sulwe.

Eilonwy

She froze at the half-elf's words, and knew that in a moment she would be flying into a childish rage. Probably what he had expected... Well, he's not going to get what he wants! ~ Defiantly, she tossed Cyrus a sachaarine smile and spoke slowly, gaining control of her temper with each word she uttered.

"Oh, I don't know, Cyrus... perhaps you're right." ~ Deliberately ignoring Aragorn's line of vision ~ "Would you be obliging enough to let us make camp for a while? That would be such a dear." ~ And the light in her eyes danced mischievously now, her anger forgotten and thoroughly enjoying herself in this pantomime.

Aragorn

At the half-elf's insinuations, he, too, had flushed. But before he could compose a suitably self-righteous reply, she had responded to the taunt. Hearing her words, he was torn between admiration and a strange emotion - he would not admit what it was, though deep down he knew the source of the poison - such that he was quite speechless for a moment.

Eilonwy. Quick-witted, feisty, a charmer. Yet beyond these facets, she was an enigma. And with time, he would probably get to know her better... Damn it, Aragorn! Did you not hear her words? She is what they would call 'bad news'.

Diverting his attention back to the present, he saw his best friend exchanging amused grins with her. Struggling to find his voice, he at last broke free from his self-imposed paralysis and addressed her coldly ~ "Did we not tell you that you were on your own if you joined us? Do you expect us to stop every now and then at your every whim, as if you were some royal princess?" ~ Here, his voice began to ring with a touch of haughtiness and reproach ~ "I think you had better break from the group if you cannot keep up with the pace, even at such a level of safety and general good health."

Eilonwy

The tight, discordant tone of his voice, along with his general demeanour and harsh words brought the heat to her cheeks. She bit her lips till they bled and still, the daggers flew from her eyes to pierce Aragorn's heart. Focusing on breathing deeply, her withering glare softened as she turned to face Cyrus.

Her voice was precariously uncertain as she cast him a weak smile ~ "There's mischief for you, if you ever wanted any." ~ Blinking five times in a row ~ "I care not for the words of one who is not the leader." ~ The success of her own insult brought temporary relief ~ "Tell me if you still want me. If you don't, I'll gladly leave. And if you do..." ~ Smirking, she did not even bother to continue the sentence.

Daniel Silverfall

Daniel kept to the rear of the party, not really even knowing the names of the people he was with. He didn't see a reason to learn them. Afterall, it makes things more personal, and he didn't like getting personal. Assuming that he was told the truth, they were riding towards certain death by dragon. Of course, Daniel would be the smart one in this expedition. He would watch, ponder, and wait his turn to move. His lady-in-waiting was waiting for his return, and he could not let her down.
