Part 2 is when Gollum emerges...I think that's maybe everyones favourite. It was mine too.

Please, please do yourself a favour and read the book, you won't regret it. If at all possible read "The Hobbit" first.

Thanks, LadyZ!

Gosh, I didn't think these 3 drawings would create such an uproar of praise... it's kinda making me want to do more drawings now.

Edit- I agree with Charlie... read the books! Much is changed/taken out in the movie compared to the books. I mean Sauraman death, Bombadil, and wasn't the Arwen-Aragorn thing pumped up a bit more in the movies than in the book? Also, if you read some of the other Tolkein books, it fleshes out the world a lot.

Will do my best. I only get use of a scanner once in a blue moon, so it may be a while. Will be sure to post it in the art forum as well as in the Cafe here.

You're not wrong. Arwen never met Aragorn and the hobbits in the wild....it was a male Elf named Glorfindel. That said, the film was incredibly well made and stuck by and large to the book. However, the book is rightly recognised as a literary masterpiece. The world is divided into two parts...those that have read Lord of the Rings and those who have not. The latter have missed out. Please read it Wendy, you'll thank me.

Oh, forgot about that. But wasn't their little romance not as developed and shown as in the movies?

Aragorn and Arwen loved each other even though they were different races. The film puffs it out and brings it to the viewers minds eye...it is basically correct. It is a very touching and moving romance...I'll say no more for the reasons of spoiling. The book says it all so much better.

EDIT: Aahh, I see what you're saying, apologies. I think in the book there is so much going on that their romance almost takes second place to the plot....in the film the plot almost takes second place to the romance. Don't forget that the book covers another chapter or two (the scourging of the shire) after the end of the film.

The film virtually ends with the romance and therefore is forefront in ones mind........ the book wraps that up nicely but then follows the hobbits home.

It's still a brilliantly written romance.

You know you can find out what becomes of Arwen and Aragorn in the appendices right? Although 1200 pages long the book is still too short, people needed the history...hence the appendices.

I didn't like the books... they were tiresome and longwinded. Its not that they were too long... I'm rereading the Wheel of Time at present (10 books + 1 prequel of 700/800 pagfes apiece... and more coming), so its length isn't the reason... It just... dragged...

And Sir G... go for it! Only, do more than just pencil drawings... unis will want to see you can vary your work.

Very nice work, Sir G! I think you got some good details in the faces and even the hair!

Wendy, Charlie's right about reading the books... I read the whole trilogy and The Hobbit at least 3 times many years back and may pick them up again. Great reading!

Charlie, your descriptions of the love story and the movie's handling of things was spot on! Very well said and I agree, everyone should read the books!

The Shiznu has you all!

Callum, don't read anything written by Tom Clancy! There's ALWAYS a 100-page lull (or longer) in his books, when NOTHING INTERESTING WHATSOEVER happens.

The Hunt For Red October was his first book...and it does this, real bad.

Work has been exhausting...Martial Arts practice has been fun. I'm doing well. Hope you all are too!
