Good Morning All! I am not myself till I have had my tea, sorry.

Up at 4:30 today to drive my sister to the airport for her holiday in Florida. I will be sleepy the rest of the weekend...as it will be rainy - time for a jolt of Starbucks! Is anyone else addicted to their Vanilla Lattes like I am?

Willow, that's great news about your Dad. Tell him we are all rooting for him. Good morning, all. A beautiful day, here, robin's egg blue skies with just a few of Cloudy's finest specimens hanging about. Well, the weekend is here, and Will has graduated Preschool. I'm hoping he finds a job straight off and doesn't hang around mooching off his mother and I.

Currently, they're taking asbestos tiles out of classrooms below my office...and the NOISE is driving us nuts up here!
I can sympathize about the noise, they were doing some construction here a few weeks ago and it made it impossible to work. I'm surprised however, that they are keeping the building open while removing asbestos. I would think they'd be more cautious...
You and me both, harley! They had several rooms to do and sent around a memo saying it was perfectly safe for us to be here....I dunno, but it sure left me a bit dubious! They didn't even cordon off the one floor where the work is being done!!

I'm pretty sure that's not safe. I wouldn't go into work given how deadly asbestos can be.

Too late now- I've been in three days this week and they are supposedly only doing it for the week. All I know is, there are plenty of people working here so if they weren't on the up and up about it being safe, there are lots of us who were exposed!

The asbestos was in tiles on the floor and I know they have a machine that pulverizes and vacuums up the tile/asbestos in a sealed situation, so HOPEFULLY that's what they were using! I didn't actually go close enough to the rooms being done to ask for obvious reasons!

Willow, glad to hear your family is starting to get back to normal! That's great news about your dad joking around, too!

Attalus, do post the pork chop recipe at The Oasis when you get time, I'd love to see it!
Ladies, if they are performing their work in accordance with the National Environmental Standards for Hazardous Air Pollutants (NESHAPs) applicable to asbestos, they are either keeping it wet (so it won't float through the air) and/or operating in a plastic-sealed area. If you haven't seen the area, you can likely rest assured this is what they're doing. Upstate NY cracked down on "rip and run" asbestos removal a few years ago -- I actually attended a conference on it at that Indian-run casino around exit 33 on I-90. I also happened to represent a guy convicted of lying to a federal investigator (a felony -- beware!!) who asked him about his asbestos removal operation. I didn't get the criminal case, but I worked on the federal contracting debarment proceeding that came after he was convicted.

So, the short statement is you likely have little to worry about, because everyone fears the regulatory hammer where asbestos is concerned.

Now, as for the noise -- can't help ya.

TL THANKS that makes me feel alot better! I figured that's what they were doing (enclosing the rooms being worked on in plastic) but like I said, I didn't go take a close look!
