Though we couldn't live together, and I left, I still love her very much and cannot deal with the concept of her losing her sight.
That is terribly sad, Yorick, and I feel for both you and her. You must both be very distressed. I won't pray, as you know, but my thoughts are with you both if that is of any comfort. I read Moni's post as well - and she is right. We learn from everything that happens to us and what may initially seem a tragedy can become a benefit in other ways - though this may take time.
May your god be with you both.

Romans 14 makes that point very clear, if you decide to celebrate a day do so for the Lord if you decide not to celebrate a day do so for the Lord in either case that is between you and God.(paraphased by me)
Well, I'm with you all the way there, John D! Only thing the Christian was to celebrate was The Last Supper which Jesus instructed Christians to do and which Easter is supposed to commemorate - though it does not.
Hey, John? We agree on something, lol!

O'course not, Moni! We'd only end up throwing things at each other, lol!

Yorick is a willing participant and I am very glad of it!
One of the great things about Yorick is that even though he feels passionately about his beliefs - as I do about mine - it is possible to have a rational debate with him without screaming and finger pointing! I just love that! I adore debate and this has been one of the best and most enjoyable in my experience. It is SO good to talk to people who share the same knowledge, even if they see things from a different viewpoint - well - let's be honest here - BECAUSE they have a different viewpoint! We sharpen each others' teeth!

Moni, many thanks. Many many thanks for your post. I appreciate it enourmously. God bless you too and thanks again.

Fljotsdale, I'll only simply say that one persons mental gymnastics is anothers mundane. I spend a lot of time when making records on things a majority of people simply don't hear. My view is simple and comprehensible to me. Comes back to perspective and where the person has come from and all they have experienced.

Waulin and Cloudy I thank you too. Your prayers are enormously important to me.

If I ever find the time to read through the previous 4 pages of posts on this matter, I would like to contribute to this discussion (will be on Fljotsdale's side of course ) but for now I would just like to say to Yorick:

I am so sorry to hear about your ex-wife. As you know I am going through some of the same difficulties that you went through (in marriage) and for you to say you still love her, I truly know what that means! I know this has to hitting you and her very hard and I want you to know that my thoughts are with you both and I wish her the best in her battle with this!

Tracey.
I have to say that I have enjoyed reading your posts! Maybe it's 'cos I'm English too, and we have a similar sense of humour - but you are a bit over the top, you know! I don't aim to yell at you, 'cos you came in on my side - but not everyone appreciates tactlessness! You really MUST learn to use smilies - they take the nasty edge off comments that I think you may not mean to come over badly. So let me show you how to make simple smilies. You will find lots more if you click on the 'smilies legend' on the left of the text window. Just copy and paste the symbols to the right of the smilie image you want:
Apart from the first few, each of the following MUST be enclosed at each end by colons - thus :smilie:
colon : close bracket ) =
colon : p =
colon : open bracket ( =

Enclose these with colons
1ponder =
rolleyes = (indicating sarcasm)
evillaugh2 =
hehe = (indicating a snigger)

I hope this helps!

Yorick?
I think my last long post will be my last on this topic, ok? I will leave you the last word if you want it.
But it would be a shame to end this thread, so if you or anyone else wants to add more on other things we have only mentioned in passing...??? I will be very happy to participate!

Please keep us updated about your ex-wife. What is her name - I hate saying ex-wife?

Yorick and Fljotsdale: You amaze me with every post and I truly have enjoyed reading them (even though to this point I have only skimmed most )
The reason I have enjoyed this is because throughout my life I have been confronted by theists who make an attempt to argue the values of religion with me, but do not understand (whether through ignorance, lack of interest, or plain stupidity) that an alternative view is also valid. They do not debate or argue their position, but rather defend it. To properly debate or argue an issue, one must have an understanding of the opposite view. I do not claim to have a full understanding of christianity (does anyone?), but I am constantly amazed at how much I know (as an atheist) compared to those that claim to be christians.

The thought that I am most often confronted with is this: If you are an atheist then you must be anti-religion
I would like to dispel this belief. Being an atheist does not mean the same thing as being anti-religious. It simply means that we do not believe in God(s). Some atheists I know follow (loosely) the teachings of the Bible. Not only to better define themselves and their beliefs, but to also understand the beliefs of others. Whether one believes that the bible is the interpretation of Gods word or not, it can still be used as a basis for one’s beliefs. At least 6 of the 10 commandments should be followed no matter your view on religion.

On a different note: I am going through a difficult battle within myself. There are few ‘beliefs’ or ‘commandments’ for atheists. The simple rule is that one is responsible for themselves and their actions. There really is no moral code, no dos and don’ts…each individual is responsible for setting their own beliefs, standards, and morals. I was born and raised in a Methodist family. My parents were not devout in their religion but did attend church regularly and sent me to both Sunday school and through confirmation. However, for as long as I can remember, I have known myself to be an atheist. I have never believed in a God. Why? I don’t know. I just know, much the same way with theists. If you ask them why they believe the way they do, they don’t know, they just do. In the end it does not matter why you believe the way you do, it only matters that you are true to your beliefs. That is where the trouble sets in with me. As stated above, there are really no beliefs (outside of the belief of no God), nothing to shape me, or define me. I have gone through life haphazardly. Wandering to and fro with no real guide. There are those that tell me that this is because I will not accept Jesus Christ…to them I say “no, I do not accept him b/c I do not believe him to exist”. The internal struggle I am having is defining myself. I have not learned from my mistakes in the past, as I have kept repeating them. I do not have a solid plan for the future, b/c I figure what’s the point I will just drift. I am willing to debate with anyone their views/thoughts/beliefs b/c through this I can better start to define myself.

Anyway, I am sorry to take this away from the original debate topic, but I figured that since Fjlotsdale seems to have called a cease fire on that topic anyway, it was safe to start something different.
