Arcades concideres for a few moments, worried about the banewolves and the stone being taken by the Dwarves.

I know nothing about the stone beneith the lines, besides that it looks to be that whatever dark power is commanding the wolves and the giants, seems to be impedied by it.

We wont know more unless we can get a sample to study, and I dont believe we can do that with the wolves hounding after us.

He lifts up his paw and cuts across his palm with a claw, spilling his intensely hot blood onto the stone floor of the cave, and then looks to his friend

Take my blood, the scent of it should draw the pack of mangy vermin off long enough for me to get us a sample of the stone

wyrd walks resolutely by her side, his eyes alert and shining with a glint of warning.

"Ruby, is our friend here keeping something from us? Does she know something she is not telling us? What can you see in her mind?"

Saithele

The elf stood back in the shadows, the others seemed to know this woman he had never seen nor heard of, apparently she had been one of the prizes the Giants had taken from Euryale, if they had thought her valuable currency she might have some use, but only if she could be proven trustworthy.

Silently he drew his blade and circled behind the woman through the shadows, if the mind bender determined her a threat, she would not be one for long.

Reaper

"Hello warrior," the words had a mocking tone, and the laughter that had echoed through the fog of
Reaper's mind when the priest had tried to interpret his thoughts was there beneath the surface of the soothing words carried in the crone's cackle.

Mildly surprised that she had decided to converse with him,
Reaper Chanted a quick spell creating a hammer of force, barely perceptible but visible to the crone. With the force of a physical blow the shaped piece of space struck her in the head, knocking her claws free of his mind. Reaper lost control of the magic when she did so, due to the sudden clarity of thought. Speaking in a voice that echoed hollowly through the cavern that could have been a tomb for all the noise present, "Do NOT try that again, Hag, I can destroy you with little thought, and I will if you do not serve me well. You know this already, as you know that I have become favored of many gods you do not desire to cross any further than you already have."

Zhydo’rah climbs to her feet, her choices seem somewhat limited, the man now did indeed have the favor of several dark powers, and he had enough control over his magic to be a very persistent pest as well, but if she could advise him, steer him towards greater power and then overtake him when his guard was down, he would make a most impressive slave, his spirit was too tempting a prize to turn into a larva now, he would be steered towards the ends he desired, and given enough rope to lynch himself with. in a voice slghtly faltering she looked across the ethereal mists, "It seems I have no choice then, you have the favor of darkness. However we could both benefit from a bargain. I will serve you for one year and a day, if you leave the victims of your blade alive for me to harvest. At least as many as humanly possible."

Reaper looked up and smiled, with a prize like this he barely needed the treasures his former companions carried, but he decided that any tools they could provide, willing or not, would be very useful, and if they could be turned to his side, he would have a better chance of controlling or destroying the Hunger as well as the giant. "What do you know of the Hunger, Hag. Your kind spend their lives gathering information, what do you know that can be used against it."

OOC: the spell was spiritual hammer

Through the darkness she has hurried, but while according to the laws of the surface lightlessness brings sightlessness along with it, such is not the case here. Indeed sightless eyes have possessed uncommon vision in this thread and since the capture of the seer Tyresias his sightless eyes have learned to apply their penetrating blindness in new ways and in the service of a new master. “She stands with them now, great Terrakis,” he says, the cadences of his voice muted and cold.

“It would seem, then, all is as I have thought and the woman deserves only death.” There is bitterness in the voice of the giant, a stern and unrelenting bitterness. And when next he speaks it is not the voice of one who spared the woman out of respect for the father whose might sired him, but that of one who has recognized in himself something of the one who has raised him ..... Yes! O yes .........

Such a voice knows neither pity nor sentiment.

Rhianneth

She gritted her teeth as the next few seconds passed while Ruby continued to stand there hesitantly. When she could no longer bear it, she burst out unceremoniously.

"For the gods' sake, Brendon, would you hazard the lives of your other companions and yours at a time like this? Standing here will get you nowhere!" Hissing angrily, she continued, "Go away with the rest if you must, but don't just pose like a statue before you get turned into one again!" Without waiting for the significance of the words to sink in, she shoved at him with her arm, "Go, you idiot! With or without me, go!"

OOC>>>I really cannot wait for the others to post, so I am moving.

Brendon

Brendon took in the words, trying to sort it all out. The sweat on his forehead was running into his eyes, causing him to blink hard to clear his vision. He was stuck in a situation of trying to decide what to do, and the whole party's lives were on the line now. He had been stupid in the past with his choices, and had put himself in harm's way only to be defeated easily. Would he do it again, costing the lives of the others with him? He was supposed to be on this mission to find and kill Terrakis, but why? Was Terrakis the reason that this adventure started? No, he had been a side-quest and nothing more...but had grown more powerful due to too much time being allowed to grow strong. Was he too powerful to kill? If he ran, would he make it out in time? Too much was at stake here. Brendon grabbed at his temples and screamed in frustration and fright. What was he to do? He looked about at his comrades. Rhianneth seemed determined to convince him that there was no choice to make, and to go up was the only way. He looked at Wyrd and Ruby, who were crying and Ruby was holding her ears. She acted as though something were assaulting her. The elf Saithele also had a sick look on his face, as though he were listening to the sound of a death march far away. The elf Anarrima was praying and sobbing, clutching her arms tight about her. Brendon could feel it too. His hairs on the back of his neck were standing on end and the air felt as though a giant fist was squeezing them in it's shadowy hold.

He looked into the eyes of Rhianneth, in understanding and as he did, an echo was heard.

"She speaks the truth, fool, run!...fool, run!...run"

"Oh my god. We...We have to run to the surface NOW!"

Now waiting for anyone to speak further, Brendon began running in the direction that would take him and the party up one level. He did not take time to turn and look to see that everybody was following. He could hear them running and panting behind him. The air was thinner down here, so he was already tired and short of breath, but he had to keep running. Finding the entrance to the next level up, he ascended the stairs three at a time, and slipped once, but caught himself and picked up his pace again.

=================================================

Anarrima

The order had been given and she stopped her prayer and ran. She ran hard and for a long time, thought that she would be able to keep the human's pace, but now she was beginning to feel the fatigue hard in her legs. She had not been so active as a slave for the drow as to have excerised her legs to good running condition. She was already falling behind. This scared her more than she had ever been before, for it was like she could feel the darkness as an enemy around her, reaching for her to stop her flight from the caverns. She knew that this shadow would never allow her to see the light again. She began to weep, yet still ran on, hoping against the odds that she would defeat the shadows.

OOC>>>
*Everybody run like hell.
*Reaper, post something about seeing us running in your next post. We should be getting near you by now.

ooc did I miss something?

Saithele

Brendon and the others turned tail and fled, the shadowed elf paused a moment before joining them at first taking care to stay behind the woman, Rhianneth in case he needed to place his blade betwixt her shoulderblades, but it soon became apparent that Annarima was unable to keep up in the darkness, her safety was paramount, the ranger was lost, most likely destroyed as he lay a statue in Terrakis' lair, if it was elfly possibly he would see that Ana survived to reach the surface.

As she stumbled he gently took her arm, and whispered in elven "You will not be left to die in this hole, I swear this on my life. If you lack the strength to run on, I will carry you, but I will not let you falter, so says Elethias Felshner."

ooc depending on how long she has been underground she may know the story behind Elethias' wanderings originally posted in the first LotF duiscussion thread

Rhianneth

Her head was screaming for rest, while her weary legs continued to pound their way after Brendon. Never had she exerted herself so excruciatingly before as this day, and she could almost feel her lungs rupturing from the exercise. Yet all she could do was open her parched mouth, gasping frantically, trying to conserve whatever ounce of energy she had left - which wasn't much. No, this was truly a trying day that hurled her from one perilous moment to another. She nearly could not think from all the massive throbbing in the head and heart, for if she could, she might well not be doing all this useless sprinting.

I'm going to die... we're going to die... it's hopeless... But the real irony was that she simply could not stop. Perhaps it was this last desperate attempt to redeem herself before taking her last breath; perhaps she didn't want to sit around and be mauled or disintegrated into pieces. Whatever the driving force, she willed herself to stagger on, climbing this devious flight of steps, her half-closing eyes pinned on Brendon's back.
