Thank you!

I've moved many times over the past ten years and I donate all my books to the nearest library every time I move. I'm planning on buying the entire series again. My memory is getting fuzzy on what really happened.

Another one bites the dust...............

Gibbon’s Decline and Fall by Sheri S. Tepper

A bit of a strange mix and quite hard to pin down. Part feminist/mystic polemic, part supernatural thriller, part sci-fi conspiracy theory romp. With such diverse strands, it takes a fair bit of talent to weave them together coherently and Sheri Tepper generally succeeds. In places, the main protagonists do become cyphers for female archetypes and the general analysis of the male character and motivations are not the most subtle I have ever come across, but overall, the book does not descend into becoming a hectoring tract and provides an entertaining and at times a thought provoking read.

Hehe...well thnx Lioness!
mmm i think i will try a little supa-fly quick reviews!

Naked Lunch
William S. Burroughs
Well is a pretty intense journey an all but is also totally fresh!
So original...this is the story of a writer whose typewriter works for
covert operations an is some kind of bug. And where mugwamps are harvested for a drug produced from there bodies. Is really intense... Burroughs writing can get to be too much sometimes...might get boring...but originality and hidden story are what its all about. Is good one. It might have a warning label on it.

San Guo Yan Yi
The Romance of the Three Kingdoms
Luo Guanzhong
This classic piece of Chinese literature has it all. Tactics, emotion, betrayal and brotherhood. Times are bad and the people suffer...amidst the
chaos three kingdoms are raised. Wu: Sun Quan, steady and strong. Shu: Virtuous the heroes, Liu Bei, Zhang Fei, and Guan Yu. Wei: Powerful, the warlord Tsao Tsao.
This is an amazing piece of the worlds literature...and is based on the events of the late second century (from around 185 a.d.) to around 250 a.d. or so-ish.

I'm baaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaack

Vast by Linda Nagata
OK, I reckon I am a reasonably intelligent guy and can cope with most literary stuff. My general motto is “dammit – I will finish you”. This book really tested the limits of that resolve. Once again I was kind of suckered into reading this as a stand-alone novel, when on closer examination it is obvious it is part of a series. However I have been down that road before and survived . Unfortunately this book really cannot be read in isolation imho as there are so many concepts/back-plots going on that the whole thing becomes pretty impenetrable pretty quickly. I think it’s mainly about a strange group of genetically altered/evolved humans and their search for the answer to a big mystery. Beyond that, I’m reluctant to commit myself Give Linda Nagata her due, her writing is fluid and some of the hard sf concepts can be fairly easily grasped, but on the whole, this was not the most fun I have had with a novel recently…..it made my head hurt

JABIDAS! Hi! Been awhile i thinks...
Hey i went and picked up one of LeCarres books...i went to get Spy Who Came in From the Cold...but accidently grabbed the Perfect Spy...couldnt remember the one you had mentioned. Havent read it though i took it back to the library as i wanted to read the one you recommended instead. It was out, but i put a hold on it so hopefully soon.

Hey Byronas Thanks! but really its only nice because everyone rights such kick azz reviews!

The thread has kina died and think mebbe a new one should be started...i think only a couple of us read it, not sure...hopefully we could get more reviews...maybe one from you Byronas!.

Mouse has been the force that has kept it going for sure! And this latest review of his is pretty interesting. Nagata is SF? I havent heard of her before but im always up for mind bending SF.

Well since i didnt read that LeCarre one...i did find one at the library that has been recommended by quite a few of you. Mouse, Melusine, Sharpedge, and Tancred(i think), and mebbe others i cant recall all have talked about Iain Banks.
As i was walking the halls and checking the shelves i looked up and there shouting out was Inversions. Im almost done it. It took me a bit to get into but once i did ive started to notice some really, i dont know how to ut it, deep(?) pages. Like on every page there is alot of hidden scenes...it has been a fun read and would like to know of any other of his books that would be recommended.

Thanks Everyone!

Phew - here's the latest one My reviews tend to be like busses, you hang about for ages expecting one then two come along in quick succession...

When the Lights Go Out by Tanith Lee
Here’s the background. Many years ago I read a book called “The Birthgrave” by the same author. Hated it . Then she came to be associated with the “gothic” genre e.g. Annie Rice ( ), Storm Constantine, Poppy Brite and their ilk, and that general style is something I have never really warmed to. So I approached this book with misgivings. Thankfully I was very pleasantly surprised. This is one of these carefully crafted and almost magical books that takes the mundane and makes it strange and fantastical. In this case the setting is an unnamed seaside town out of season and by small steps, Tanith Lee draws the reader further and further from what could be reality and into a world just slightly skewed where the unusual becomes mundane and the supernatural becomes natural. The closest analogy I can think of is from the film world – this book reminds me of Jacob’s Ladder (not in subject matter but in style). That’s not to say it’s faultless, sometimes the author slips into purple prose mode and some of the mysticism/grotesquerie towards the end might be a bit overdone, but on balance I thoroughly enjoyed this and might well have a look at some more of her work.
