"Erm... is he... dead?", Rena inquired.
"Looks like it. That was... pretty easy," Jaheira replied, with some hestitation. "Somehow I don't think this was what was meant to happen. It's as though we broke the script of what Fate had intended. Is she awake yet?" "The Elven Queen is still out cold. She just couldn't believe we managed to punch through the magics of the Tree of Life and slay him. I am under the impression that she now fears us more than him." "I don't get it though. How come your damage could get through, but not mine?" "Maybe it is because... because mine is not actually poison, but some sort of physical bleeding damage?" "Jaheira. I have to say this. That scimitar of your's is way powerful." "I know. I... I feel so dirty using it. It just rankles against the Balance." "I wonder what will happen now if we destroy the last parasite?" ~~~~ ~~~~ To be continued... Battle Report of Tree of Life next. |

Water's Talon +4 is a very broken weapon, and I am not referring to its' ability to bypass JIrenicus' ToLife Shield, because Valgar's katana can too. No... I am calling it broken because the bleeding damage is literally infinite.
As an experiment, I struck JIrenicus ONCE with Water's Talon. After about a total of 100+ bleeding damage, he dropped dead. NAME me one other weapon that has that amount of poison/bleeding damage in one hit. And even 'better', the bleeding damage is cumulative, so two hits is a guaranteed kill on anything that is not immuned to the bleeding damage. I reloaded and tried out Poison Weapon. Poison Weapon fortunately, does not bypass JIrenicus' ToL Shield. Still... it was weird killing JIrenicus when he is supposed to be invulnerable. Happily, this does not in fact, break the area script. You can kill JIrenicus first, for the XP, then kill the last parasite to spawn( resurrect?) him again. "I... *you* k-killed me... AGAIN!" 9Hells is up next. [ 06-16-2006, 11:37 PM: Message edited by: Dundee Slaytern ] |

even though I have not cracked the box open for my copy of Baldur's Gate II: Shadows Of Amn, I can just read through this thread for sheer hilarity. Dundee, I hope you do stuff like this for NeverWinter Nights as well some day, as those stories are just plain hilarious. *cackles and goes back to reading*

Argh! I surrender. Just could not spin a yarn about the 9Hells battle. Boo to 'Writer's Block'.
This is probably redundant at this point of the thread, but be warned! Spoilers for the Final Battles are at hand! Part of this journey was to also experiment with some of the cheese from Userunfriendly's Cheese Guide, and in the Test of Greed, I modified his method of charming the Enslaved Genie. Instead of wasting a perfectly good Mind Control Circlet, I used up a charge from the Staff of Domination instead. The Staff of Domination is an evil, evil, EVIL tool. I had to be very prudent in its' usage, and not abuse it too much. I usually use it in fights that have no right to exist, such as the Poison Badge Encounter( you know... I still do not know why I keep installing the PBE component. The fight is absurd, there is no plot, and I never use the loot anyway. So why, oh man why, do I keep torturing myself with it?). Anyway, after gaining a GOOD Tear of Bhaal from the Enslaved Genie, I dominated him before he could Dimension Door away and backstabbed him to get back Blackrazor. The XP is nice, and although I do not really have a NEED for Blackrazor, it is still nice to have it around. ~~~~ ~~~~ The final battle with Improved Irenicus was pretty much settled by two things. Kelsey and Sanchuudoku. E-yup, just those two things, and a healthy dose of summoning abuse. ~~~~ ~~~~ Before inserting the last Tear of Bhaal, I had Rena lay traps around the battlefield. I would not consider trap-laying at this point of the game to be cheese really, since you were already informed that opening the gate meant a showdown with Irenicus. Still, to be more fair, I scattered the trap placement evenly around the central pillar. The moment the first battle started, Kelsey began the PRATI chain. The Dragon of Pride died pretty fast, and succumbed while still under the Fog of War. The party meanwhile, were still at their starting spots. No party movement yet. Oh yeah, AI was also turned off. This is a battle best handled manually. The Wraith of Wrath was the next to fall. He could do jack against Mordenkainen's Swords, and was basically boxed in by summons. Using the HLA Critical Strike ability, Minsc and Jaheira dealt the killing moves on him. You can also see Kelsey's Project Image clone in the midst of summoning even more Mordenkainen's Swords. The Planetars meanwhile, continued their rampage under the Fog of War. The Orb of Fear died to their relentless attacks. Interestingly enough, while the Sword of Greed is immuned to physical damage, it is not immuned to the Slay effect. It blundered into the path of one of Rena's traps and failed its' saving throw against Death, succumbering to the Slay effect of Rena's trap. ![]() ~~~~ ~~~~ Kelsey says, "Don't step anywhere near there." ~~~~ ~~~~ Jon Irenicus fails to heed Kelsey's warning, and casts Greater Malison on Hobgoblins. Brillant, Irenicus, simply brillant. So hands up. How many people have used the Wand of Monster Summoning for the Improved 9Hells fight? The reason why one would want to is simple enough. The monsters all use unenchanted weapons, which helps greatly in stripping JIrenicus bare of his stoneskins in record time, especially the Hobgoblins. Jon Irenicus falls from the relentless barrage of unenchanted ammunition. End of round one. ~~~~ ~~~~ Can you see Irenicus the Slayer? ~~~~ ~~~~ Irenicus the Slayer dies from acidic poisoning. End of round two. This screenshot was pretty cool too, in that two MSwords died next to the corpse of the first Irenicus, making it look as though JIrenicus had dualwielded swords. ~~~~ ~~~~ The... last incarnation of Irenicus was pretty straightforward. Breach and death by Planetar. ~~~~ ~~~~ And with that, ends the SoA journey of Rena. ![]() |

With the end of one journey, a new one starts.
I felt it was time to update Rena's portrait, to better reflect her current personality. The following screenshots were all taken when the party was still in the ToB starting area( the glade). Rena's Statistics, Part 01 Rena's Statistics, Part 02 Rena's Statistics, Part 03 Rena's Statistics, Part 04 Rena's Statistics, Part 05 Rena's Statistics, Part 06 Rena's Information: ---- ---- Rena managed to get such a high kill percentage because I often played her solo in normal fights. To screenshot all of them would take too much time, but basically, it is possible to win most fights in BG2 by pure backstabbing alone. Jaheira's Information: ---- ---- Jaheira the Dragon Slayer. As the party's de facto tank, Jaheira is often in the thick of battle, and as such, often the one who ends up with the killing blow. Minsc's Information: ---- ---- With the aid of Strongarm, Minsc manages to snipe past Jaheira to take the crown of 'Most Kills' in the party. Minsc is also a Dragon Slayer. Kelsey's Information: ---- ---- Kelsey was not kidding when he said the party could make an honest living just by slaying Dragons. He too, has slained Dragons to his credit. Imoen's Information: ---- ---- The ONLY member in the party to not have killed a Dragon; and heck no, I have no idea WHICH Dwarf Imoen killed( DWARF? DWARF?!?!). Kindly ignore her 1-Kill only in the previous chapter also. It is just too sad. ~~~~ ~~~~ Coming up next, the battle with Illasera. |

"So, what was the most powerful thing you vanquished?" "A Dwarf. Yeah... a really scary one, with beady eyes and an unkempt beard." OTL ~~~~ ~~~~ "Uh huh." "Grave danger, Rena! They will stop at nothing!" "So what's new?" Suldanessellar, a grand hidden city of Elves. Now playing host to a party of adventurers lead by a Human female named, 'Rena Ryuuguu'. The situation. A gang of Bhaalspawns was leading a rampage throughout the Sword Coast, leaving behind a bloody trail of innocents in their relentless hunt for rival Bhaalspawns. "Rena!", Elliseme said, in an almost wretched voice, "Are you not concerned about your life?" "Concerned? Con-cerned? For the past four years, or has it been longer, ever since I stepped foot out of Candlekeep, my life has been one big game of, "Let's try to kill Rena!". I ceased to be concerned long ago. I have accepted my fate. I am no longer going to sit back and let them come to me. Nope... not gonna do that. I am sick and tired of being their walking targetboard. No. I have decided, long ago. Jon Irenicus was the last straw. I am going to get them before they get me." "Is that truly how you feel?" "Yes." "I do not share your sentiment, but I also do not know enough to question you. Per-perhaps the ancients might give you more to ponder upon. Will you accede to my request, Rena? I ask only that you listen to what the ancients might have to say, nothing more. What you do after that, it is up to you." "I guess it wouldn't hurt to just listen. Very well, Elliseme. Lead on." ~~~~ ~~~~ The Glade of the Ancients. A sacred plot of land known up till now, only to the Elves. Monolithic stone heads litter the glade, their eyes mysteriously shining blue. "Let's see... just rub the cheek of one of the faces, she said." "We Awake. Who Summons?", voices thundered. They spoke one after another, as though many, but united. "Rena Ryuuguu, ward of Gorion. I-" "We Know. It Has Been Foretold. One Of Many Prophesied Ones." "Well, yeesh. If you knew who I was, why did you even-" "Brief Or Verbose?" "Come again?" "Brief Or Verbose?" "Well... I was kinda hoping not to get stuck here for too long, so I-" "Screwed. Yes. So Screwed." Silence. "I... What in the Nine Hells is that supposed to mean? Is that it? Fine! What about the verbose version?" "An Unfortunate Fate. You Are A Magnet For Hate. Blood Flows From Your Path. Countless Stricken From Your Wrath. ~ Your Anger Blinds You. It Darkens Your View. An Appetite For Death. Many Draw Their Last Breath. ~ The Five Seek Your Demise. Their Names You Will Soon Depise. Bhaal's Servant Hides Behind A Smile. Killing Her Will Take A While. ~ To The-" "Hold one second there. How long is this going to take? Isn't there some middle ground between brief and verbose?" "No. We Speak No More." "What?! HEY! Don't you go silent on me now! Talk to me!" Rena shouted, as she bashed one of the faces with the hilt of her sword. "Ow," was the only reply she got before the stone faces went silent for real. "Graaaah!" ~~~~ ~~~~ To be continued... Coming up next, Rena's first ToB fight! |
