You can find .pdfs of almost every AD&D book for $4.00US.
Here's a link to the 1e monster manuals and other stuff- http://paizo.com/store/downloads/wiz...ndD1/rulebooks Is the book Deities and Demigods? I didn't see that one at this site, but there are other sites that have good quality .pdfs, just not as cheap ~ usually around $6. |

Hmm - I think that was the name. I guess there are a few others I'd like; some of the old Greyhawk books/materials would be cool, too. $4 isn't a bad price!

By the way, you will find a lot of the monsters that I made icons for that are not in 2e material in those books

1e always was chock-full of good stuff (lots of monsters in each of those books)!

It seems that with each new edition, that AD&D is more commercial than the previous. (I'm sure that it is - it's been a long time since the days of GG and his photocopied materials...)
It seems that their notion of what makes money is less monsters, but more art/bigger art for each and bigger and badder powers. |

2e definitely upped the number of monster-related products - how many Monstrous Compendiums did we have? 15 or something like that? Plus annuals, extra appendixes, etc... It really was a lot of stuff, but a whole page for each monster.
3e is now full-color most of the time, but I don't actually like the art all that much! Some of it is good (they even sneak a bit from Larry Elmore here and there), but a lot of it seems too comic book-like or cyberpunk or I dunno, something about it is just not "fantasy" for me. (They do color very well, though - I just take issue with the actual designs.) And why are halflings just quarter-sized humans (half-height, but quarter the volume)?! By the way, a few new icons here: Eye of the Deep (beholder-relative) - decided to make it pseudo-frontal view, instead of the side-view that I did for the beholder. Sea elves - male and female. They were fun to do, especially since they are bare... (Clothes are annoying to add in.) Erinyes - replaced the older icon with a new one based on the female sea elf above. I think I will be reusing human/demihuman parts from now on - faster icons, and I can put more time into the parts that I use again and again... Started to make a sort of repository for parts ![]() Narwhal - just added this one now, since I noticed that I didn't have any big undersea icons ;D It's a bit rough, but coloring it is a pain, so that's all for now...

I think that we are on the same page about the art.
![]() ![]() Speaking of bigger...I just found a 2e supplement called the "Guide to Hell" that is all about devils, er, baatezu. ![]() ![]() I'm on my way to check out your icons right now. ![]() ![]() ![]() There are some amazing "body farm" icons in FRUI. Kaz-Keith did an awesome goblin set where the icons lack arms and you cut and paste the arms that you want onto one of the several bases. Instead of there being only two or three icons of goblins, there were dozens of possibilities and they all looked awesome. ![]() ![]() |
