OOC: It's like getting blood from a stone.

IC: "Then on to the JOUST!"

Tancred sets off to the great Festival Field of H'azelle, wandering through the streets with the cheerful air of a man on holiday. At last, no demon-slaying or battling vile monsters; he has a chance to kick back, relax, and prtake in some genuine knightly fun as only a Cavalier can.
The city seems to mirror his mood. People fill the streets around the field, taking up seats and holding picnics on hills, watching the various knights as they ride around asking favours of ladies and boast about their prowess with a lance.
Tancred, wasting no time, seeks out the heralds as those who joined him from the bar mingle. The queue of hopeful chevaliers dwindles until he gets to the front.
"I'm here to enter the joust," he announces hopefully.
The rodent-featured herald doesn't even look up from his books. "Name?"
A clearing of the throat. "Sir Tancred de Foesmyte, knight of Helm!"
Much searching through books.
"Do you have a horse and shield?"
"Um... er, no. Can I borrow one?"
The herald sniffs, mutters, and waves to an armourer somewhere in the background.
"There's a deposit for shield and horse hire... 'milord.'"
Tancred pats down his satchel, ad his face falls as he pulls out a few coins. He lays what money he has on the desk.
The money is secreted away.
"You'd better not spend that all at once, you rat-faced beaurocrat," yells Karnas.
The herald's head snaps up, taking in the picture of the rusty knight and the golden lance.
His eyes bulge.
"Oh, no... not YOU!"
Tancred grins.
The herald looks heavenward, mumbling a prayer.
"Sweet Gods above... well, Sir Tancred, do you have a squire?"
"Um... a squire?"
"You do have a squire?" a nastily hopeful tone enters the herald's voice. "You can't enter the joust without a squire, my lord..."
Tancred casts about him as the disgruntled queue of knights waiing to enter the joust starts getting impatient. He gets frantic, glancing around desperately for anyone to be his squire for the joust...

Skye popped up out of no where. "I'm his squire!" she announced. "And, er.." she looked down at her harp. "This is... his harp!" she shoved it at Lyulfe, who gaped at her. "Er, yea! He was just showing me how to use it because I was bored. Oh, and the dragon is not allowed to be speared or attacked by any knights. It's under, uh, a rare- dragon specimen protection law. Don't want them to die out after all." She grinned cheerfully at the scribe, who raised an eyebrow at the spunky half-elf and gaping song dragon.

OOC- hm, think he'll buy it? tancred will have to tell Skye what to do.. she's never actually been a squire before.

Once the sarcastic scribe looked away, Skye walked up to a bored squire nearby. "Psst, what do ya do as a squire?" she whispered inquiringly, giving him a conspiring wink.

OOC- who wants to play squire? ^^

ooc: Time to dust off this character and put him to work over in LOF

Myron Epimetheus

The pile of crumpled paper next to him has grown very high but still he scribbles his notes on the little white napkins which are so wonderful for the writing down of things. All the while he mutters quietly as he pursues the ideas he finds in his book. Pausing a moment for the turning of a page something catches his attention and he grows still, truly still for the first time since he descended from his room. “Yes, yes,” he whispers, “there is a change coming. The name of IronWorks is receding in strength and something new, something called Escape is moving into its place.” Setting down his book he reaches into the folds of his robe and pulls out a moldering leather scroll case. His lifeless fingers carefully withdraw an ancient scrap of parchment as he mutters in an obscure tongue about the perils attendant on the shifting of names. Reading the scroll he softly intones the formula of incantation is bears and concentrates.

“Of course, of course,” he mutters, “the inner forums would indeed be the likely place. But they must hurry for there is very little time. Why there is so much to study here! So many new things to learn if only one had the time in which to learn them. It is always the case, there is never enough time for the learning of the things one would dearly like to learn.” Opening the portable hole stitched into his robe pocket, he quickly shoves his pile notes within it. He then whispers another incantation, one which draws the remaining little square napkins within the bar – so wonderful they are for the writing of things – to his table where he might put these as well into his strangely deep pocket. Another command is spoken and his satchel of books is with him. The feeble little man who is not alive stands up then, muttering still about the wonderful opportunity for learning that this is and how happy he is to have come downstairs. His dry and dead fingers reach into a pouch and he absently leaves a pair of large gems on the table to pay for the warm drink he had enjoyed.

Walking with his shuffling gait toward the door, he opens another book and turning its dog-eared pages finds the words he was seeking. He speaks them and in doing so leaves this thread for another recently started story where there is something he would like to study.
