save and then attack. If it doesnt work you can always re-load.
Or recognise that realistically a shadow dragon is too tough for a level 9-12 party to tackle with a near-100% chance of success (after all, dying isn't much fun and its unlikely your characters have suicidal tendencies).

Choose the path of self-preservation; don't attack him now but come back when you're stronger.

Do a search for "Dan Simpson's BG2 guide" or look under the BG2 listings at http://www.gamefaqs.com for one by DSimpson. Trust me, that's the only walkthrough you'll ever need.

Magness: Yes, a storage area is a cool idea and I got it from Six. (See? He IS useful! )

[/QUOTE]Thanks Shamrock, I'll do that. My WT says that this is the easiest dragon in the game to beat, which is a bit misleading.

Hey, I want Aerie to cast Otiluke's RS on herself but she keeps saving vs spell. How do I make her not do this? The point of the spell is to protect yourself.

Did you install the Baldurdash fixpack?

I'm pretty sure I installed all the patches. I fact there was only a few things I needed 'cos my version already had the rest. I don't have any of the mods though. Does the fixpack correct this?

The sticky FAQ will guide you on what you need, and link you to them.

Namely, the Official ToB Patch, AND the Baldurdash ToB Fixpack.

While Otiluke's Resilient Sphere does protect the target from being harmed by any outside forces, it also prevents any spells from being cast by the target inside the sphere. The sphere acts as an impenetrable barrier - keeping any energy or spells from traveling in to or out from the sphere.

Since a mage cannot cast spells out of the sphere, the game probably treats it as an adverse spell - thus granting the target a Saving Throw to avoid being "trapped" within the sphere. Unlike PnP, your character doesn't have the option to deliberately "fail" a Saving Throw.

It is not meant to work that way in BG2. It is a known bug and has been fixed.
