The One-Eyed Wolf - Utter Chaos

As they amble down the streets, a tomato lands on his face and he grimaces, clenching his fists. Gripping her by the upper of her left arm, he pulls her into a nearby alley.

"We have to talk, Mistral." ~ The lines on his face are painfully obvious; she reaches out to erase them, but he shudders at her touch ~ "Please... let me finish." ~ His green eyes darken for a moment before he continues.

"I... I think we had better part ways, Mistral." ~ Horror holds her in a death grip and she feels the world spinning around her mercilessly ~ "We've had our good times, of course. And I... I still have feelings for you. But I am tired." ~ His pleading gaze pierces her heart ~ "I am trying so hard to prove to myself and my father that I am worthy of respect. Yet each day I walk down the streets with you, I gain exactly the opposite of that." ~ He swallows a gulp ~ "I'm sure you know it's nothing personal... and you have always been strong. You will manage fine without me." ~ Abruptly, he turns to go ~

"No! Larry! Please... do not forsake me now..." ~ Desperate tears course down her cheek ~ "I need you... I was a fool...I have always needed you..." ~ She clings to his arm, kneeling down before him ~ "I beg of you... do not abandon me now... you are all that I have left." ~

He turns his head to look at her, with a sudden fire in his eyes ~ "Yes... you need me... you only need me now when you're trapped in this pool of filth. If you were not, you'd have gone flitting somewhere again, breaking my heart over and over again..." ~ His voice hardens ~ "Well, let me tell you that I'm sick of being treated as a slave and an errand-boy, spinning like a top around you. I have my own life to lead, and now I choose to do so." ~

Her body begins to tremble and she listens helplessly to his next words ~ "You have never considered how I would feel each time you left me. And now, you cling to me like a leech, because you have no other purpose in your life. It seems our roles are reversed now, and you had better get used to it." ~ He kicks her hands away and begins to re-enter the main street.

"No!... Larry... please don't leave me..." ~ Her cries are in vain; he walks on without a further glance at her...~

In reality, she shivers, her limbs turning icy. Her feet struggle to move, but remain strangely immobilised. With a scream, she wakes up once again, the pallor of her cheeks emphasising the darkness of her hair. She clutches the blanket with her clammy hands and draws them up to her chest once more. Her eyes flicker with dread, before filling with tears.

The quickening of her heartbeat arouses more emotions than she thought were possible. She begins weeping hopelessly into her pillow. Isabeau hovers about her helplessly.

[Kaz]

By dawn, Kaz had left the city and was walking in a straight line to... she did not know. When one goes completely mad, one must prepare for the unexpected, especially in oneself, she thought bitterly. Walking through the woods awakened memories, older than those she had been fighting. They seemed almost whole, they even made sense sometimes. A man and a little girl running in the woods, playing hide-and-seek, a woman watching from a cottage... the scene seemed peaceful somehow, unlike any of her other memories, it seemed.

[SSJ4Sephiroth]

Sephi's posture and manner looked like he was offended. How the hell should I know? If I had caused her to do this, I doubt that I could be able to tell. And you are just making me think that I might have... Sephi suddenly looked sad. What if I DID cause her to leave? I... I've failed her... again... Anyways, don't you think we should follow these footprints to find out where she went to?

[Neb]

"Hmmm.... Very well, let us continue, but I'll need to drink a potion before we continue, to give me strength," Neb removed a healing potion from his pocket and as he did so he also made a small almost unnoticeable sign with his right hand, his familiar noticed it though, and bit Seph hard on his ear, injecting a poison into his system that would knock him cold for half an hour, possibly only ten minutes if he resisted well, but still enough for Neb to get ahead, not waiting to see whether how the mercenary fared against the poison, Neb swallowed the potion and jumped out of the window to follow Kaz's tracks.

[Kaz]

Kaz walked more slowly. She felt as though she were walking in a world of dreams, not sure what was reality. All around, spring blossomed as birds sang in the trees and the branches erupted in a flow of green. Yes, that was spring... my life with my parents... loved and carefree... Kaz smiled. Yet now it is winter... I never had summer or autumn, I went straight to winter... my parents are dead, my friends? what friends? There is no-one for me... I am only a wailing ghost who should have died with my family... Kaz shut her eyes in pain, and when she opened them, they were gray, painfilled, devoid of all color. Only in the middle, black specks seemed to float, specks of darkness. Kaz lengthened her stride again, the birds' song falling unheard onto her ears.

[Neb]

Neb hadn't gone far when he realized he needed some sort of transportation, so he conjured up a wyvern to use as a mount, he then ordered Zephyra to follow the trail closely, he would follow it through her eyes, Zephyra quickly flew low over the ground, while he flew high with his wyvern, he quickly realized that he was going to have to slow down the mercenary in some way, to accomplish this he cast a spell as he flew over the city gate that most closely matched the direction he was following the trail, he cast an Evard's Black Tentacles spell on the gate area, if the damnable mercenary tried to get through there he would be squished like a bug by the tentacles.

[SSJ4Sephiroth]

In a fit of rage, Sephi woke up and rubbed his head after ten minutes. He darted around the room, looking for where Neb might have gone, then remembered the tracks. He must have followed Kaz's tracks!
He climbed out the window and ran for the gate. Noticing that something was wrong, he got a little bit closer. There were many black tentacles around the gates, moving about and trying to capture anybody who passed by. Better not go through the gates... Instead, he pulled out a length of rope and a grappling hook and threw it up over a wall. It latched on, and he climbed up, threw the rope back down, climbed down the rope, and continued on his path.
He walked back towards the area of the gate to pick up the trail again. That Neb is going to have a LOT of explaining to do when I find him! And maybe bleeding too... Sephi ignored those thoughts for now and tuned into his elven senses. If he was going to be able to find Kaz, this would be the only way, he thought...

[Kaz]

Kaz stopped as a dark shape appeared among the trees. A cottage. Here the sense of strange-yet-familiar she'd experienced with the shed was non-existent, everything, every detail, struck her mind as if it had only been yesterday... the simple wooden exterior, the gray-blue roof, the tree beside the door. Kaz remembered her mother planting the tree. It had been small and had not grown well, she has been afraid it would die. But Elsara had persevered, watering and caring for the tree, and now, long after her death, the tree had grown into a slender birch, taller than the cottage, the light filtering green through the new leaves. Kaz walked under the birch, seeing the small mark she'd carved there, so long ago. It had grown, as well, thinned out it seemed. Opening the old green door, paint flaking, she stepped inside.

[Neb]

As Neb flew, weariness threatened to overwhelm him, he couldn't allow that to happen though, the wyvern would be instantly unsummoned and he would plunge to a nasty death on the ground below, to keep himself awake, he remember HER face, the face of the woman he had once loved and Kaz's face, the one that was so alike, they were also the same when it came to personality, except that Rissa had been more..... aggressive, not as peaceful as this one, Neb quickly cursed himself for thinking the name that almost brought him to tears, no, he would not allow her to fall, not this time, this time he would be there to protect her, a small telepathic squeak from Zephyra brought it to his attention that her eagle-like eyesight had spotted Seph climbing over the walls, ah well, thought Neb, I will be at her side before him.

Dawn finally approaches. He heaves a sigh of relief, his haggard face almost beyond recognition. Placing his hands behind his back, he paces around the armoury aimlessly. ~ How is she now, I wonder... will she be able to take it... that Larry had better take good care of her, or I swear I'll kill him on sight. ~ His fingers clench and unclench absently ~ Shall I tell her the truth? What will happen to my own honour then?... Is honour all that important?... She certainly deems so... ~

With a grunt of frustration, he sits down on the ground, finally giving his exhausted legs a chance to rest. ~ She will be overjoyed when she knows the truth, for sure... yet she took in my words so readily. Does this not show that she has never had a high regard for me? If she had, she would never suspect me of such treachery... ~ He closes his eyes in agony ~ How can she have doubted me so?... Were not my intentions clear enough?... ~ His hands grip his long sword fiercely ~ She deserves all the turmoil she'll be getting, for misjudging my character! ~

A smirk forms on his lips ~ And as for that ranger, I saw the dismay in his eyes when I first mentioned the question of Mistral's virtue. He speaks valiantly, but the damage has been done. This slow poison will take its toll on him... that is what happens to those who cross my path! ~

Suddenly, he shakes his head agitatedly ~ What is happening to me?... One moment I am all concern for them, and the other I wish to smite them dead... ~ The panic grips him by the neck, almost strangling him ~ I am good... I am good... ~ With a howl, he flings his entire body onto the ground and begins to roll around randomly ~ What can I do? Nothing!... I have nothing left but this stronghold, and to lose it by disclaiming my own words would be pathetic! ...And so I must be evil...but I want to be good...arghhh!!!... ~ His ranting and raving continues.
