Jonal Turamarth 01/78 00/56

Jonal was beginning to push the pain from his head, but his body knew that it was waning. After so long like this...how could there be a life afterward?

"I...not whimper...I...heads in satchel...proof...just, heal...I'll go."

Breathing was labored and weakening. His eyes could no longer open or if they were, he was blind. One ear seemed to have lost sense of reception. he did not even think he had a tongue anymore.

If this guy could or would not help him...and soon...life was over before he left this room, he was sure.

Not sending Jonal a second glance, Shaka motioned one of the guards to bring the satchel. One look was enough for Shaka to know that what he had wanted had been accomplished. He waved another guard to his side, and whispered orders to him. The guard went off as Jonal was slowly slipping into an unconsciousness from which he would never emerge on his own.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The next three days were much blurred for Jonal. He could remember a young man, slightly healing him, and then had come the ordeal. Shaka himself magically set Jonal's bones and joints back in the places they belonged, and if it was even possible the pain was greater than any he had ever felt. He had hoped that his journey to these caves would end his suffering, but in order to be healed even more suffering had been needed.
On the morning of the fourth day, Jonal was once again led to see Shaka.
"You are healed. Consider it as a coin with which I desire to buy another service from you. Something that you yourself desire. You know what I'm talking about, don't you, Jonal?"
Jonal worked a kink in his jaw until he got a rewarding *pop*, and then did the same for his neck which was still a bit tight.
"Yeah...I know what you're talking about. You have issue with the priests of that foolish god DreamInvader. I promised that guy I'd be back for him...and now its time I did so. When do I leave?"
Shaka smiled. Jonal was acting so predictably. Not that the man had any choice in the matter, but he did not offer even a token resistance to Shaka. It told Shaka much about the hate Jonal held for the Dreamweaver and for his lackeys, those who had tried influencing him in the past.
"You can leave whenever you wish. No more obligations tie you to us in any way."
Shaka stood up and walked next to Jonal, extending his aged hand.
"It was a pleasure working with you."
Jonal considered the out-stretched hand for a moment.
Without accepting the hand shake, he bowed his head slightly and briefly in an alternative show of respect and said,
"The pleasure has been all mine, for I have desired nothing more nor less than what I had been asked to do, and will do. Thanks for mending me up."
He then turned and walked towards the exit, hoping that this would be the final time that he had to see this dingy place and these screwed-up people.
OOC>>>Without knowing why, Jonal did not feel right about taking the hand. Its something he had been trained on by his earlier master of the guild...but he would not remember that.
Unless you have something to post, I shall continue with my next post later, where I am on the road.
Birg...Birg was where this all began. He had traveled there by ship, unwillingly, to the port of Farag and found the temple that was dedicated to the foolish god who was called the Dreamweaver.
At that temple, he had met with those that would be consigned to travel towards an unknown end, being forced to do the job of this deity...yet only one would make it back...and Jonal always knew that it would be him. He did not even need to be a god to know that.
Working his way through town, he finally came to the dusty road that lead into the deep forest which concealed the temple of this god from sight. Making his way down the path, he finally came to those familar doors with the archway that read : "Azkamad ul musura Canganad."
He did not immediately see anyone outside that belonged to the clergy here, so he proceeded to open one of the large wooden doors and step inside...
"Honey...I'm home!"
He remembered that this whole thing was about a mission, and even though the mission never even got underway the way it should have...he would still have to be prepared to answer questions as to the fate of the mission as well as the fate of those that died by his blade, and those that did not. He only had to keep up this ruse until which time he decided he had had enough, and had a clear shot at getting his memories back. Then this place would burn.
And even that Dreamweaver would not stop him...
High Priest Artold
The interior of the temple had not changed much since the last time Jonal had been here, but the High Priest's face looked as if it had aged years since Jonal last saw him. His voice however, coming from the lateral passageway to the right of Jonal, was still the same.
"Four of you set out originally, yet you return alone."
He stepped from the shadows and examined Jonal.
"What happened?"
Oh, don't you know? I wonder if you're just pretending with me, priest. We were assaulted before we ever made it half-way to our stupid destination by your men, and we lost the dwarf. The rest of us were able to take down our captors but for one...can't remember the fool's name...but he got away. Later, we had a chance to fight back and overtake the relief team he'd gathered but the bird-brain turned out to be a traitor when the chips were down and got us caught in the middle of thier camp ground. The bull and I fought for our lives and he was killed in the fields while I was stabbed and left for dead. A passing caravan aided me in healing, but we passed within notice of those that thought I had been killed and when they saw me they fought to kill me again, but the caravan had its own defences and we finally fought them off. The caravan threw me out, calling me bad luck and I walked home.
Now...about this stupid assignment you had us go on...it was all a ruse to get us all killed I guess. I'm just a simple man...I ain't no alchemist or anything...and that is why I am having a hard time believing that you and this temple are not a part of that betrayal.
Wanna try to prove me wrong before I start showing you what I did to your comrades?"
