riding along quietly, ruby is back to her humming. the melody starts to falter as wyrd slows down his pace almost to a creep. ruby's humming stop altogether. *it's ok, nothing is wrong. i'm sure there are no earthquakes. it's probably just rubble from teh mages tower settling. nothing to worry about*
wyrd pick his pace back up to the comfortable walk, but he still seems uneasy. ruby begins to hum again, taking a little time to get the melody and rythm right. [ 10-26-2002, 10:09 PM: Message edited by: RevRuby ] |

OOC>>> Larry, I've PMed you
![]() This is a level 16 sorceress, but she isn't going to do much combat anyway, in my typical style Level 16's cause she defeated a level 15 wizard from OEW ![]() IC>>> Rhianneth This time, I will NOT be stopped again. She reaches the edge of the comfort zone, her lips pressed grimly upon each other. Her thick dark brown hair now plaited neatly and tucked away from the treacherous reach of the cursed winds, she clutches the Staff of Magi - her prize from a battle with that juvenile elfling - till her palm is robbed of its usual rosy hue. Where are you? There is a mixture of contempt, concern and insistence in her silent demand. The object of her desire is nowhere to be seen, not that she had expected anything else different. But still... You cannot be dead... I will not believe it. She advances now, looking for signs of the foolish adventurers who had responded to some gullible lad's call for assistance ~ Do they know what they are up against? For Brendan and Syrathic
The crest that has pierced the ground is dark smokey gray color. As it draws near to the two adventurers more and more of the crest becomes visible and the ground itself begins to heave and swell along the neat furrow traced by the moving crest. This heaving is brought to a sudden and abrupt end as a massive form erupts upward out the ground, a massive creature with an enormous mouth. The creature itself is protected by a thick armored shell of the same dusky gray color as its crest. As it bursts out of the ground scattering dirt and stones in all directions the great mouth opens and with a booming roar spits out a thick cloud of shadowy darkness that covers the area around the adventurers. ooc: Larry - I have no problem with trusting folks to be reasonable with their combat posts and in determining the effectiveness of their actions. Clearly, this is a slightly modified bulette – one that has been changed by all of the shadow creatures it has consumed. Brendan and Syrathic are not blinded but are caught in a region of darkness and the creature’s own coloration blends well within it [assume a minus on ‘to hit’ rolls]. The creature has 75 hit points; AC -2. The initiative is yours, guys. |

Brendon
Brendon was the first to react. As soon as the creature emrged from the ground, Brendon let the arrow fly that was already nocthed for flight. However, he never saw the arrow hit, as the creature instantly had belched forth a shadowy cloud, and vision was impared greatly. He doubted that he had hit it, however, as it's hide had looked too tough to pierce. Maybe if he could see one of it's eyes, then that would be the only true shot to make, as that would probably be the only vulnrable shot. When the arow had left the bow, Brendon quickly ran in a wide arc one quarter of the way around the creature and watched for signs of it's movement in the shadows. He also listend for his comrade. He needed to know where he was, but was too afraid to yell out in fear of attracting the creature's attention. He just listened. OOC>>>Cyril, I will let you determine if the arrow hit or simply skipped off it's armor. [ 10-27-2002, 02:49 PM: Message edited by: Larry_OHF ] |

Syrathic heard the creature groan in pain and figured that Brendon had scored a hit with an arrow. He smiled; his companion must be a worthy archer. There didn't seem to be vulnerable places in its armor, but apparently his companion had found one.
Syrathic charged in, letting his cloak blend into the darkness. He knew that Brendon was having a tough time seeing him as it was, but the figured that it would probably be best if he tried to distract the creature for Brendon. He began talking aloud to the creature, speaking mostly nonsense, looking for a place of vulnerability. His first two strikes just bounced off the plates. It didn't look like he would be very effective, but hopefully, he'd be high irritating. occ: Larry, you should be able to hear Syrathic's words and have a good sense of where he is, even though you can't see him. He probably won't be able to get in a hit until the creature is angered, revealing the shell underneath the crest. I'm going to try and keep the creature distracted so you can shoot unmolested. Cyril, I don't know if the creature will able to see my charcter all to well now, and combined with his high dexterity, he should be difficult (but not impossible) to hit. He's not likely to slip his blades between the creature's plates unless the creature begins to focus on Brendon, when he'll be able to pick his spots better. |

Brendon
Brendon heard his friend's voice and could determine at least the direction in which the elf was travelling, though not how far away. Still, it gave Brendon hope and a more clear perspective of what was going on. He knelt down to one knee, grabbing two arrows and sticking them up in the ground in front of him. Notching the arrow that had been between his teeth, he began to breathe slowly and fully, taking careful aim and awaiting his shot. |

After listeing to Zachary speak, Sir Morguerat is silent for a long time. "Perhaps my friend, perhaps, you've given me much to think about, perhaps eventually I shall understand how to regain my status, if such a thing is possible. Until then I shall strive onyl for a glorious death in teh service of the greater good."

For Brendon and Syrathic
It is a creature of hunger. Ravenous, fearless and relentless, it has come to feed. The slight pain from the arrow is barely noticed and the ineffectual stabbing thrusts of swords do little more than scratch the hard plates of its armored shell. But the movement of the one with the blades captures the creature's attention. It is a movement strangely muted to sight and difficult to follow with the eye but the creature is unrelenting in pursuit. The great mouth opens and snaps at the movement only to close around empty space. So too a large claw swipes viciously without striking home. But so large and fiercesome a predator as this knows instinctively how to use its size to limit an opponent’s movement. A strike with its other foreclaw finds its mark. A blow such as this would have felled or crippled a weaker creature but that is not the case here. The bulette, of course, does not think of such things. It will simply continue to strike until it has won its food. ooc: Syrathic - It landed a solid shot for 15 points of damage. You have succeeded in getting the creature to fix its attention on you and it is having some difficulty in following your movements – it is clearly seeking to use its size as an advantage. The creature’s crest is still down. |
