Well, since we've been playing this game for quite some time now, perhaps we should, as you've already suggested, use the specializations of mages as well..
I say;
modern mages-10 points
Sorcerers-7 points
Necromancers, protagonists, wild mages-5 points
Illusionists, invoker-3 points
red wizard of thay-2 points
the rest (let's call them all 'mages')-1points

whadda you say?
