We have "Jeans Day" about 3 Fridays a month at work. On Jeans Day, you pay $5 to a charity and get to wear jeans. Participation is optional. Today's charity is one I've not heard of, and I think most of you will agree that the advert for it contains some very surprising figures about US Special Ops casualty rates:
JEANS DAY. . . FRIDAY, MAY 30, 2003 to benefit "SPECIAL OPERATIONS WARRIORS FOUNDATION" The SPECIAL OPERATIONS WARRIORS FOUNDATION (SOWF) was founded in 1980 to serve members of the Special Operations community, which comprises of the Green Berets, the Army Rangers, the Navy SEALS, Air Force Combat Controllers, Delta Force and aviators who fly in support of those teams. The Foundation is run by retired Special Operations soldiers to help the children of their fallen comrades. Since 1980, more than 350 Special Operations personnel have given their lives on operational missions or during intense training programs. SOF units have suffered casualties at more than fifteen times the rate of conventional U.S. forces. SOWF is not a government program -- it is about volunteers dedicated to providing college scholarships (not loans), based on need, along with financial and educational counseling to more than 400 children of Special Operations personnel who were killed in an operational mission or training accident. These services are provided throughout the United States, or overseas, depending upon where the surviving children reside and cover the full costs of a college education -- tuition, fees, room, board, books, and supplies. The funding can be used in private universities, state or community colleges, and vocational-technical training and career institutions. If you would like to learn more information about this program, you may visit www.specialops.org or call 813-805-9400. |

I ave on occasion commented ont he fact that people forget, that just being in the military is dangerous, you don't have to go to war...and the special ops folks, well they have the toughest training in the world and yes some people do die just in training....and then when in the field..they are doing the most dangerous jobs...my hat is off to them all and I commemorate the fallen at least annually. That being said....TL..you have to pay to wear jeans at work? that is the uniform of the day for me jeans and Polo's, and my Nike's gotta love the work environment here |

Well, MagiK, I feel privileged to have a "business casual" atmosphere. It's a real treat not to be wearing a suit everyday. I simply keep one hung in my office for when I need it.
Besides, I only own like 3 pairs of jeans, and only have worn 1 of them any to speak of in 3 years. I own running shoes -- but generally only wear them when I run or do outdoor work of move furniture. As has been the case since I was in college, my dress style is certainly sloppy-side-of-preppy. |

I was just givin ya a hard time TL Im the exact oposite of you...I have one suit and about a dozen pair of jeans and dockers. In yourposition I am surprised they let you relax at all, when you deal with "customers" it's usually the old suit and tie 100% of the time. But since I deal with trons and puters ...no need to get all fancied up |
