About 20 mph to a *really* rough approximation. Thats working to the idea that there are only 1400 yards in a mile - which is obviously a source of much inaccuracy!
How accurate do you need it Charlie?

20 mph is fine.
I've totally forgotten why I asked the question if I'm honest. (EDIT) Aaahh, I remember, The lift in the old post office tower travelled at 2400 miles per hour...or was it feet per mile? Hope that helps. [ 03-26-2003, 07:06 PM: Message edited by: Charlie ] |

Erh, actually my H&P pocket calculator told me (sorry, just been to the pub) that 1400 feet equals about 420 meters, or 0,42Km. My Mayland calendar (somehow it knows everything...) boldly states that 1 english mile is 1,609Km, so THAT means 0,42/1.609 equals 0,261 miles per minutte. Times 60, that's 15,6619 miles per hour. All because I don't, for the life of me, know how many feet per mile.

2400 feet per mile sounds like something a Time Lord would dream up... to cover the full 5,280 feet by traversing a mere 2400 of them is amazing, to say the least!
Now, 2400 feet per minute... that's more reasonable. I've been on some fast elevators, and they might do that much. In fact, it means... assuming 10 feet per floor... it could go from the first floor to the 240th in about a minute. Okay, that's way fast!

Hmm, it's easy math.
1 mile = 1760 yds = 5280 ft. 1400 fpm = 84000 ft per hr Dividing 84000 ft by 5280 ft (in a mile) gives you... 15.909090909090909... mph or roughly 16 mph. QED! |
