Seems like a 'big wup' to the rest of us! I know 99.999% of the world doesn't have a gigabit ethernet connection just laying around... lol!

It would make renting DVD's online a reality.
And DVD piracy an easier thing... at least nowadays you need to reduce quality to get an avi of a downloadable size.

IMHO film producers wouldn't be really eager to try this online renting...

Amazing.

10 years from now a 10GHz processor will be an old moldy peice of antiquated junk.

They have some physical barriers to get through before it becomes a reality. Current technolgy is a 13micron die. AMD and IBM have formed a joint venture to get the die size from 13 microns to either .45 or .6 microns. (This is the average width of a wire on the processor.) The goal of course is the .45 micron size.

By reducing the size of the wire they will be able to reduce Resistance and in turn reduce CPU Enemy #1........ HEAT. Reducing the heat will enable processors to get much faster. It will be enable processors to be cooled with much quieter fans and will also consume less electricity as a lower voltage will be used.

AMD and IBM hope to have this technology developed and on the market in 3 years.
Dont be surprised if the first chip released will be 6GHz or faster, using less electricity and with cooler temperatures than the current AMD 1900XP.

I just wonder what the FSB will be.

10 years from now you will sit in a booth in your office or bedroom and put on special 3-D goggles and head phones and pair of electronicaly enhanced gloves and shoes then instead of playing an RPG character you will be that player, with a sword in one hand and a shield in the other. You will then walk into the virtual RPG game with others from Ironworks and battle the world for treasure and glory, and say "Hay Z remember when we had to type everything out and my spelling was really bad?" That's what I can't wait for!! Just hope I live long enough to see it.
