The younger brother of a friend of mine has just recently graduated from training in the Australian army. As early as June last year the new soldiers had been asked by the Australian military if they would be interested in participating a US-led invasion of Iraq 'early next year'(this has been on the aggenda long before all the fuss and bother about WoMD sprang up in the media). Being the energetic young strapper that my friend's brother is, he has signed up. My friend comes from a military family, his father was a leutenant colonel in the British army. My friend is studying to be a lawyer, and thus is rather the black sheep of the family. His father and brother (and mother, to a lesser extent) believe that fighting for one's country is a noble thing to do, regardless of where and why. My friend has his own opinions on the matter, but militant minds flock together. Go figure.

Hey All,
Since this is about friends and family being deployed, I would like to point out that, for the safety of our loved ones, please refrain from discussing specifics in this thread (real names, unit association, times and places of deployment ....) Despite anyones opinion of whether this war should be fought or not, there is no need to jepordize the safety of those that have to participate. Information, however seemily insignificant is power. Now, back to the discussion, yes, I do know people being deployed. I have a possibility of being deployed (low, but possible). I hope things don't come to that, but hey, it's a crazy world.

My brother just got orders to transfer from Germany to Fort Stewart Georgia last week. Two days later they were cancelled. Now he's off to Kuwait
