Whats WERD stand for?
WERD is "forum-speak" for "I agree", or "Right On"... It is found in most strictly Off Topic forums. Like the one found in the first link in my sig.

I consider popup ads to be like telemarketers invading my time at home in the evenings. I neither want their goods nor would I ever purchase anything from them so sticking cookies on my computer or changing my homepage is something I consider an intrusion.

Agreed! Pop-ups are the bane of the internet, second only to SPAM e-mails. And, IMO, this joker over at slashdot is probably one of the people running either a porn or a warez site that is full of said pop-ups

PS: Just for clarification... www.slashdot.org is NOT a newswebsite...it's a message board where people post their opinions about the news. So take any and everything you read there with a grain(or perhaps a whole shaker) of salt. Just my .

That is the best example I've heard yet!

Keep in mind, you don't agree to view pop-ups in order to visit a site in situations like this. It's something they force on you while frequently installing spyware on your machine. Ever run ad-aware only to find the same spyware cookies keep recurring despite uninstalling their programs? They've put a trojan on your machine. One of the worst is "username"@1stairfare.com .

Bunch of freaking butt munchers!

If I go to a site or download a program, and I can't access/use it unless I agree to allow pop-ups, then I have to make that decision for myself and live with it, and I do. I allow iMesh's pop-ups through cydoor because without them the program won't run. It's a necessary evil(it's actually not spyware just a pop-up dealy).

In that case, I've made a choice, but if they think they're going to shove their junk onto my machine... then Norton's, Zonealarm, Ad-Aware, a few other stinky, little friends, and I have a surprise for them.

Stealing from them? Indeed!

They are the thieves. They steal my bandwith, my ram, my patience and my time. They're lucky I don't press charges.
GO RONN!!! *Standing up and applauding* Awesome post!

BTW...What's iMesh?

I know about cydoor, and I personally hate it, I root it out wherever I find it. Ad-Aware is high up on my list of favorite programs, and I run it multiple times a day(when my puter is up and running ).

iMesh is a file sharing program like Napster used to be. It uses cydoor which can suck, but it only runs while iMesh is running, and isn't recurring. If I remove the ad package from iMesh(which stops it from working) with Ad-Aware it only returns with a new install of iMesh or something else.

iMesh provides a link to the Ad-Aware site the confirms cydoor isn't actually spyware, but instead is a pop-up engine That may be only for the version of cydoor with iMesh though.

Another thing I've been doing lately is blocking the sites related to cookies through the IE options/security/restricted sites list. Everyone else has probably been doing this forever, but I just figured it out..lol.

With every cookie I find, I put it's site on the restricted list. The cool thing is the list lets you use wildcards. No have to put in 20 different entries for xxxxxx.wesuck.com . Putting "*.wesuck.com" blocks everything they try to send.

Of course, they're always trying new stuff, but so far I have about 15-20 sites in my restricted list, and I haven't seen so much as a single cookie in about 4 weeks. Not even in my wife's profile.
Thanks for the info. LOL...And, goodonya for the Cookie blocking trick. Actually, not a lot of people know that one. Mostly us puter geek types. erm...did I say "us"?

I only visit a site with pop ups once. Don't mislead me and waste my time with ads I never asked for. If I want to support a site I will. I click on the banners. I make a contribution. (personal editorial: You should do that here at IW.) I shouldn't be forced to view ads. If a site has to do that to survive, they deserve to die. If nobody will freely support a site then it really isn't that good. These are the sites that also force spyware programs on you. I haven't seen them sending me any royalty checks for helping them make money on MY labor/preferences etc.

That's a good idea Ron! Would you mind sharing with us your blocked websites list, so that we can do it too?
