Well, i was on earlier, got off, and now i'm on. During my disappearance of 20-30 minutes, my brother and I had our youthful curousity of roaming our small neighboorhood at 1:20 Am at night. Well, we roaming, just having some fun as kids do. So in the backyard of our neighboors, we hear this movement by the woods. Just thought it was deer. A few more steps, something is hissing at us. Like a warning call. We slowly go away, then bolt to the street. And as soon as we start talking about it, it continues hissing more rapidly and louder. We ran up the street to our house and paused. I do not wish to know what it was, or why it was pyschotic, nor do I ever wish to return to that area at night. So we went inside, and I went online to post it. Also, i looked up Raccoon on the encarta, and the noise it makes matches the sound we heard. So we have had a close encounter with a pyschotic raccoon. We learned a big lesson today.

I wouldn't say they're psychotic though... Probably you were just trespassing on its territory, or what the raccoon has claimed as its territory. And what you heard was just a natural response.
Unless he was foaming at the mouth, of course... In that case it's a good thing you didn't got to meet the racoon.
