I have the browser option turned on that allows for automatic notices of upgrades....anyway, it says that I can upgrade to 6, but I believe I may have heard rumors of people having problems...
Who has info for me? |

I use IE6, and have never had any problems with it. AFAICS, it is just like IE5 execpt a bit faster. Although problems with it may depend on you OS.. I use WinME and IE6 works perfectly.

I've got it as well and it seems to run fine on Win98 SE.

I just upgraded IE5 to IE6 last night, and frankly I haven't noticed any real difference except for the color of the icon. There probably are some changes I didn't notice, but nothing dramatical. Don't know which OS you use, but mine is Win98 and it runs just fine.

It's supposed to be a lot more secure, so it's worth it from that point of view. I'm using IE6 at the moment and I can't say there's a huge noticable difference; there's a few new settings etc... but nothing too difficult to get the hang of.

Yeah I upgraded from IE5 not that long ago and as people have said there's very little noticeable difference in functionality. Images now have a little toolbar that appear on them allowing you to save, print etc. without using the right-button...pretty useless unless you have a programmable mouse and wanna use the right button for something else. Also, the security options are more diverse...oh and there's automatic fault report generation so if the browser crashes, a fault report is made automatically (I'm assuming it dumps the contents of the memory so you can send it to Microsoft to pore over and they'll apparently use the data to fix bugs.)
I also installed Service Pack 2 for Windows 2000 at the same time and since then sometimes everything just freezes up and I have to use task manager to shut down a windows explorer. Although this mostly happens when I'm using IE6, I always use IE6 so it could just be something to do with the Service Pack. Anyway, only for win2k (which hasn't actually crashed so that I've had to reboot- ever )

quote: There is one benefit to the toolbar over pics. I don't know if you've noticed it or not, but these will pop up even if the right mouse key has been disabled by javascript.

IE 6 was an absolute nightmare from the second I installed it. It was buggy, gave me huge problems, and lead to me having to reinstall windows again completely - with my beloved IE 5.5 once again. Still, the choice is yours. The others haven't had any problems so you probably won't either.

quote: I downloaded the full IE6.0. One other benefit was that I got Outlook Express with it too. Since I have several hotmail accounts, it has made it much easier to keep in control of them. I can send HTML with it now too which makes it a bit more fun. Haven't had any problems with it. I did get IE6.0 with XP too. That's a bit of a different flavor though. Sometimes it goes perfectly, but then other times it can be a bit of a hassle. I think a lot of it does come down to what operating system you have.
