I just watched a press conference held by the civic leaders of NYC. They estimate over 500 firefighters, police officers, and other civic workers who responded to the intial attack are missing and presumed lost in the collapses.

I heard reported that most of the Firefighters, Police, and Emts that are missing were in the second tower. Those brave selfless men and women returned after the colapse of the first tower, to get any remaining people out of the second tower!
