The media that is!
I am talking about their coverage of the Chandra Levy/Gary Condit situation. Those of you in the States most likely know what I am talking about, for those of you that do not care to keep up with the broohaha of the US I am talking about the missing Intern of Rep. Gary Condit of California. She has been missing for 3 1/2 months now and there is speculation that Condit was involved in her disappearence. He did have an affair with her and lied about it...well the big fuss now is the 30 minute TV interview he gave last night. My beef with the media is this. Why do they have to spend 48+ hours analysing, studying, probing, acting stupid...for a 30 minute interview? The interview was last night, but yesterday morning I was watching CNN while eating breakfast and they were already talking to 'experts' about what Condit would say, then last night after the interview it was everywhere "The Condit interview: Did he say what he meant or did he mean what he said"...newscast after newscast, it made me want to hurl! Now today it is the same thing. On CNN's website I counted 8 links to the Condit story, including one that was an interview with a language expert discussing Condit's body language and what he really meant. Come on give us a break. This is one congressmen from a district in CA. Why does the rest of the US really give a s***! Are these pathetic media a-holes so desperate for a story that they have to spend two full days (and I am sure there are more to come) disecting a 30 minute interview. What a pathetic group of losers. The world has major crisis' and they spend there time wondering what Condit meant when he said "I have to go to the bathroom"...does this really mean that he killed Chandra Levy? And what does this do to our legal system? If this man were ever to go to trial for anything how would we be able to find a jury of his peers that do not have an opinion of him? The media likes to act like a courtroom with Condit being tried by the media in the Court of public opinion...and of course there is rarely anything good said about the guy, what is the media going to do: side with the family whose daughter has been missing or side with a rich congressman who had an affair? I don't know the guy, maybe he is a great guy that screwed up, but how are we to know when we get a one-sided attack from these media louses? End of Rant Any opinions? ------------------ Never try to teach a pig to sing; it wastes your time and it annoys the pig I've got to admit it's getting better, it's getting better all the time |

You hit it on the head, Moridin.
Whatever really happened has been buried under the avalanche of bullshit propagated by the media. It continually amazes me how such a huge and wealthy industry can stay fat on such slim pickings. It seems that they get more nutrition from a story every time they regurgitate it. My gut reaction to this story was initially "Oh crap, another innocent unknown gets taken to the cleaners, and quite possibly murdered, while the rich and powerful perpetrator gets off scot-free" I have since moved on to "Why in the hell can't the state, county, and federal investigators find their asses with both hands and a map? It's been 3 months already!" |

I plan on awaiting a time wherein there is a trial, with evidence for both sides. Right now, I am not sure what to think, as you said, the media loves to generate hype. But she is missing, which means most likely that she is dead according to her friends and relatives, as she is not the type to disappear without any comminication with anyone. So there begs the question, whom took her out? Whom would want to kill her or who would have a possible motive to kill her? Unfortunately, any people she had personal relationships with would obviously be looked at, which includes G. Condit. I do not feel that investigating him is out of the ordinary, but on the other hand, I do feel the media loves to exaggerate things, and condemn a person as guilty before all the evidence is collected in a case. Hey, they are piranhas looking for a meal. I know this, and am aware of it, and I think many of us "viewers" are onto how the media exaggerates and blows up certain "events". But that does not mean they are wrong, or right. Only way to know is in the courtroom wherein every minutia of evidence is presented. And even then, will we ever know? I mean, there is no body after all...

Personaly, I think He is a lying sack of horse manure. NOT because of what he said or didn't say about Levy, but because he is a politician and his mouth moved.

Well, it is really really outdone, yes... but the good thing is, this case will priotitized, and this needs to due to the fact that the U.S. Government have their A$$es capped here... they mess up here, the public trust will diminish and will propagate again, and the media will send that to Timbuktu.
As for Chandra Levy, Larry king live really pisses me off at times... but they have some good points.. even though... I have seen Larry King Coer this for what? 5 Shows already? Jesus, I am sick of it, do it again when you find her dead or if Condit hanged himself or whatever... In my opinion, they are just wasting time... I personally think she is dead... no point in hostaging her for this long... ------------------ My love for her is beyond words... beyond time... you know this |

I do not know the case you are describing (see my location ) but if this is the way I imagine it to be, I can say something: The accused guy will be ruined after this, because wherever he goes people will think, "Hey thats the guy who killed that girl" even if it has been proven that he is innocent. And THAT should be outlawed.

Yes, the media is often full of shit. No, you don't have to waste your time watching it. Nuff said. [This message has been edited by Diogenes Of Pumpkintown (edited 08-25-2001).] |

I have dealt with the Media before...calling them Maggots fits a great many of them perfectly. They seem to gather round anything that stinks and relentlessly badger and prod. I am not saying they are all evil or terrible human beings. But, they don't seem to care or think before they stuff a microphone in someones face or dig through the garbage. They also don't seem to care about the victims as long as they have a nice fat story with gore and slime to toss about.
