Vegemite is the original and in my opinion the best of the black three:
1.Vegemite 2.Promite 3.Marmite (a poor mans Vegemite ) As a child I oscillated between layering thick swathes of Vegemite on slightly burnt toast, and spreading less generous portions of Promite on less cooked toast. Both varieties were accompanied by molten butter, which had to be spread AS SOON AS THE TOAST POPPED UP! Or the molten effect was negated, resultant in a mixed hash of black and yellow on cold toast. (Not as bad as it sounds) I grew up on the stuff. Here in Singapore I actually pined for some the other day... alas I cannot find it anywhere Moiraine I did indeed counsel you against trying some of the Aussie spread. As your breakfast diet consists of all things sweet, attempting a salty, strongly flavoured first taste for the day, may prove harmful to your well being Alas poor Memnoch, thou speaketh heresy....... ------------------ I am the walrus!.... er, no hang on.... Nobody has mentioned that you can use marmite to make a drink too, put a spoonful or so in a mug, add boiling water and stir. Used to do this when i was young. And in Britain we have Bovril too which is similar.
