Anyone out there have a formula they use when creating a magic item as to how much an item should cost? I'm thinking of developing a standarised system that would increase the cost based on how many abilities and bonused the item has. Any thoughts from other item creators?

...Just think of an appropriate price based on what you think it should be worth.

It seems a lot of magic items' worth is based on the history behind it as much as the actual abilities. If you figure that in, it might be kind of difficult to make a formula.

3rd Edition has costs for newly made items but I would say older (permanent) items should cost more. No particular formula though. Just compare it to existing items with similar power levels
