A friend of mine that I hadn't seen for 15 years came to visit me over the Christmas holidays and he surprised me with the Gold Box version that contains both NWN and Shadows of Undertide. My question is if I download both does the expansion have the patch for NWN? Also, do I need to then patch Undertide? Thanks!

You need the latest patch 1.61 which you should click update and download.

Thanks SW for the heads up on the update and thanks to Malavon and Xen for the encouragement! By the way, and this shows my ignorance of the NWN francise, is NWN and SoU stand-alone games? Or do I first start in NWN and carry over into SoU?

NWN and SoU are different stories both meant to be played with 1st level characters. You can use the same character in SoU you've used in NWN, but it would be too easy. Be sure to pick up HotU as well, it continues the story of SoU so you can use the character you used there.

install the game and expansions first. then run your updater and patch to V 1.61. if you try to patch in between installs, you'll get a mess. and you don't want a mess do ya?

i'm replaying the whole she-bang right now. OC, SoU and HotU.

ok, you scared me here... I'm playing the OC right now and have been patching as I go. I received SoU for Christmas, but haven't installed it yet. I was going to wait until I finished the OC. So, you're telling me I'm going to have a mess on my hands?

No not at all. You can install SOU at any time actually and continue playing the original NWN's OC. It will open up new spells/feats and classes for you which may be more fun (it will not alter the old OC much) but then you might plan to wait until actually playing the SOU OC to try them. Basically you can do either one.

All that matters is that you've patched to the latest version regardless of what you install.
