I know a lot of people like using full parties of 6 characters when they play. But I have found that using only two characters (one as my main character, the other a Thief to pick locks and steal) is actually quite potent. Since the experience you get from killing monsters is split evenly between your party members, with a full party of 6 your characters level up at one sixth the speed. I usually kept my thief at an inn, and just used my main character alone. It was hard at the beginning, but once he started getting levels, he was really badass!

I decided to always choose skills and traits that I knew I would use. I chose the Lizzord race for the character, as their Snakeskin trait (+50% resistance to poison) is decent, they can carry quite a bit (the weight you can carry depends on your race, your Strength, and your initial Fortitude when you first created the character). Plus, they look cool. I made sure to train at every guild every time I gained a level. For weapons, I trained in Dagger, Sword and 2nd Weapon. Forget shields. Every so often (once I had reached level 12), I would switch to another profession. I started out as a Wizard to get the Sun and Stone spells. I then went to a Warlock to get Ancient Lore, Moon and Fiend spells. Then a Paladin, for the Noble Cause trait, Spirit spells, Gallantry and Leadership. I also got Athletics, Cabalist, Occultist, Enchants, and Blessings. I then went to a Ranger for the Vine spells. By this time, I was level 5 in the Warrior's guild, so I got the Double Strike, then 2nd Weapon skills. I did not get the Arms of Argus trait from Ali Baba, the genie. I did get the Arcane Void trait from completing one of the Cleric Guild quests (giving Jathil the scroll). I am now a Samurai, for the Ancestral Guide trait and the Prowess skill. I will stay in that one until I become a Zenmaster. My thief went from a Rogue, to a Bard, to a Ninja, to an Assassin. He will stay an Assassin.

I did all this, and I haven't even gotten past the Dragon Spire. I have almost no problems killing anything. I have had to reload games from spots quite a bit earlier than where I screwed up on occasion, but my characters have not actually died since first reaching Ishad N'ha. I have nearly all the spells, and some very potent inventory. Harmful spells very rarely work on my characters at all anymore.

Even though it might seem like you're signing a death warrant for your characters by only having one or two, you will actually become much more dangerous than a full party would after both had progressed the same distance through the game. I would suggest you do this.

That's right. I'm currently playing with a single character. I took an Elf for their Quick Learner trait. I have 3 mules at the Inn that I move from town to town to keep precious inventory and quest items that I don't need.

I started out as a wizard. Before I even entered the Crypt, I was level 9 and changed to Barbarian. This gave me much wanted HP and Traps and Lock skills. Halfway through the Crypt I changed to Warlock. By that time I was a level 11 barbarian and I had over 90 HP (not bad for a wizard). I changed to Bard halfway trought the Temple (level 14 warlock). Now, I'm on my way to kill Elyssia and I'm level 10.
