Someone please let me know how to exit through the gate in the pond after kiing Scabben. I've tried to push the button on the wall in the nearby room... Thanks!

I think I must have killed him somewhere other than where I first confronted him. Is the lever on the floor where there is a hole to jump down in to the pool? Thanks for the help!
