underwater helm

I have only gotten 2 shells and bought a mask from boat man. How do I get more? I have been everywhere back and forth nothing. When I do kill the monster it will not leave a shell now what please help want to finish this game before I get old.

I find the best way to find crabs is to spend some time roaming around underwater in the general area of Ishad (of course, with spawn set to often, as others have mentioned). They are easier to find underwater than on the beaches, it seems. Two of them keep spawning right near the gates of Ishad every few minutes as long as you wander away for a bit (that's my experience, at least).

Two tips: spawn rate often (if not there already), and PICKPOCKET the crabs -- I'd go into a boring mathematical analysis, but, simply put, though not all crabs have shells, those that do have them don't always drop them when killed, but they *can* be stolen with little trouble.

Also, Collasium is a really easy place; if you've only got enough gear for a few members of your party, just leave the rest back in town -- be sure to bring along at least one person with storm spells, for the Mother Crab.

I have this problem too. After coming so far its really a show stopper. I have sat (spawn=often) on the beach
for days and killed about 100 minotaurs, 50 raptors, and upti-nine other things, but not a single crab.
Does anybody know a place that crabs frequent?

I think you mean Brimloch Roon, not Ishad (too far inland). Not to be a "corrector", but it may confuse some readers.

I've had no problem finding crabs. However, I've always developed one of my character's scouting ability to level 7 or 8, so they alert the party when crabs are about. It's then just a question of diving and finding them. They generally come in groups of 3's.

I've had my best successes with them right around the Brimloch Roon harbor, and the waters around Skull Island.

ALSO NOTE: If any of your characters have the 6th level Vine spell "Breath of Air", you may be able to do Collasium without the breathers. There are air pockets throughout the city, and if you carry Mana Max potions you can recharge the caster enough to make it through the city.

I just finished outfitting my group with helms and breathers today

Most of the crabs spawn in the deeper water around skull Island. I was swimming the perimeter of the whole sea, eventually they will "chase" you (they seem to spawn at the bottom of the deeper water). I was submerging just at the edge so that I would come to rest not far from the surface. It is easy enough to kill them, grab the shell and hit the surface before anyone drowns. Having a character with Scout skill helps a lot here because you can outswim a crab if you don't know when to stop...

My rogue could never steal a shell with only 3 skill in pickpocket. And the shells don't always drop. But I was able to get 12 in a solid day of gaming this weekend (with spawn rate set to high after the initial crabs were all killed.)

I figured out where they spawn today by testing the equipment, hehe..

One tip.. the shopkeeper usually makes two helms and one breather, but once in a while he makes one helm and two breathers
