There is no doubt it is a bit harder and more complicated than previous games. The storyline is probably better than Icewind Dale's never ending buildings, caves and towns you have to clear of enemies. There is still much of that in Icewind Dale 2 but somehow is much more fun. It is far more complicated with the 3ed rules. I'd say go for it!!

What I liked about it was that it gets even more strategic than IWD 1. The 3rd ed. rules are much more complex, but they really work to give your character a defined function/group of functions (depending on your use of those rules), and the way those functions interact truly make your party into a team of your own design. And that team will absolutely have to "get their stuff together" to get through some of the battles in IWD2, which can definitely test both the group and individuals to the max-- not to mention you.
If that sounds like fun, and you enjoyed the general gameplay of IWD, you'll love this. [ 02-06-2004, 03:36 PM: Message edited by: motub ] |

I've now finished the game 4 times and thoroughly enjoyed it
It's no NWN or BG, but I do like a bit of hack and slash every now and again. I thought the storyline was quite good, and I prefer 3rd ed. rules - you can specialise your characters more, or make them good all-rounders, to your taste.

Yeah, I think it's a good final for the infinity engine...shame it's supposed to be the last game to utilise that graphics engine...but while I did get frustrated at the battles (and I've only gotten up to the goblin fortress! - started yesterday. Though I did get further before...can't remember where though) there is a great sense of accomplishment if you do succeed...feels great!
Also, it's good to get IWD2 if you're really bored with BG2 because of the many times you've played it...a new story and new setting is very refreshing, and hopefully it can last until BG2 holds an attraction again. |
