Soloing fighter/mage

I'm not so sure even a solo character can get to 30 total levels under the non-HoF mode, because high level characters get no experience for killing low level monsters. There was a discussion string about that around 2 months ago, but I cannot find it. Just something to think about before you do too much planning that includes 30 levels.

Actually, i have both blur and Invisibility, i went and killed whats-his-face of the rags, got enough exp to get to level 3 mage. I still have trouble with that fight though, i use up all my spells just getting through the first attack. the second usually gets me. The one time i did manage to hack through that second attack, making liberal use of Nolan the healer, Cabalus and his gang took me out fairly easily.

Any hints/tips for that battle besides use the healer?

My spells are: magic missile, mage armor, color spray, sleep, blur, mirror image, pro.evil and burning hands.

Mage armor is useless, it does nothing for me, my armor class just sits at 1i think) with or without it. I mainly use color spray to sleep the enemies, but it only lasts for 3 rounds... when it works at all that is. I dont think i have enough fighter levels for fighting, and all my feats are in the mage department. I can usually hack my way through several goblins, but those wolves are a pain. Using my bow, with hit n run tactics, i can take out the second group fairly reliably, but all my spells are gone from the first attack.

BTW, i have no money to buy any other spells, and im pretty sure there is no more money to be had around here, oh, i have 5 or so burning oils... but i usually use those in the first attack.

Borg might be right about whether it is possible to reach 30th level or not. I can not speak from experience as I haven't soloed a character yet. There is a LOT of quest experience in the later chapters of the game and although combat xp may be diluted, quest xp is virtually constant regardless of mode and with a solo character it is no longer split.

Here is a rundown of quest xp by chapter for just the last three chapters:

Chapter 4: 43,000
Chapter 5: 57,350
Chapter 6: 75,150

Total: 175,500 xp

That looks to be about 5 to 7 levels worth of xp.
