i think halfling is just a non-copyrighted word for hobbit. and hobbits do pretty much suck at everything but carrying rings and looking scared.

In the first version of D&D, they where called hobbit, but Tolkien threatened to sue, so they changeed the name.

They don't suck. They have a lot of advantages. For example, by being small they get a size-based AC adjustment. They get also saving throw benefits. They're good at sneaking and thrown weapons.

Yes, they aren't strong, but with a potential starting 20 dex they're hard to hit. And, with weapon finesse, they get to apply their dex modifier to hit with certrain weapons.

halflings rock especially strongheart halflings they even start with a extra feat with helps out unbelivably. Imho there great
