Hello all.
I´d like to open the .wav files in the Icewind Dale sounds folder, but I can´t. The sound files have the .wav extension, but they´re somehow "innadequate" for Winamp or Sound Forge. If character sounds are customizable (the game manual states that you can do your own sounds - 16-bit, 22KHz, Mono Wave files - and assign them to your party), then why can´t we open the default ones? Could it be some kind of protection? P.S. How can I post an avatar? [ 03-05-2002: Message edited by: Tanis ] |

Dunno about sounds, but the Avatars come with the number of posts you make.

You need to download Near Infinity and then do an internet search for "acm2wav.exe" Once you install Near Infinity, put the acm2wav.exe file in your Icewind Dale folder. Near Infinity will then convert the .wav files so that they may be played with Media Player or RealPlayer (or whatever). The quality of IWD music is definitely worth it! Azred,
I think I almost have the answer to why I couldn't play the IWD character sounds, but... There were some ".acm" files that I never really expected to play. In addition, the character sound files that I couldn't play were (if I remember correctly) ".wav" files. Will Near Infinity clean these up, too? Will IWD play the converted files? |

That is a question for which I do not currently have an answer. I haven't tried playing any .acm files through my Near Infinity. I'll try it when I get home.
