I don't feel like I have enough understanding of Eastern culture to give it justice. You know... anime like Ninja Scrolls, Slayers and Princess Mononoké can be really interesting, but they don't really give much insight into eastern culture...

Sounds good Luvian, I've been writing out a story myself, though writer's block has become some-what of an annoyance.

I'd say, base it on whatever you feel most comfortable with. I've been playing Dungeons and Dragons for about six years now, so I thought it be best I base mine on that world and background.

Characters, it all depends buddy. The way they act and their attitudes can result from their history, whats happened to them earlier in life, so forth, it's up to you. But it sounds like you've got the handle on it.
