I'm starting to get really annoyed with pop-ups that keep occurring on my computer.

They pop-up(obviously) and are titled Messenger Service and contain many different messages about how to get rid of them, how to lose weight and some random spanish woman.

What I need to know is has anyone else got this problem or had this problem and how did they get rid of it? I wouldnt mind but its starting to affect my gaming as I have a Broadband connection, and I find it almost impossible to play games online .

Thanks for any help,

J.W.K

Go to 'Run' and type 'msconfig' and click on the 'services' tab and find the 'Messanger' and deselect it. Problem solved

Or run a firewall. Any decent software one should block messenger service automaticaly on an internet connection, any hardware one will let you close port 139 (IIRC) which has the same effect.

And if you arent running a firewall - these messages are being targeted at your IP. If you can be hit by these, some script kiddy could just as easily check your machine out for any interesting info. So you want a firewall.

Erm theres messenger, is that what you mean? I'm not trying to take the p*ss but sometimes the spelling makes a difference.

I've deselected it i'll see if it makes any difference.

And I will re-install my firewall, Thanks Andrewas I knew there was something that I forgot to do.

Thanks guys!

What you're getting there is the same error I did for a long while. Eventually, i tied it to MSN messenger being on in the background for long periods of time (and when I checked, other people had had similar problems). If it's possible with XP (which I assume you are running), having messenger disabled should help clear it up.

Messenger - grr! Such a good idea, such crap implementation!

I keep getting annoying popups to set up an account with MS Messenger. I don't want any IM set up on that machine, but how do you stop it, an application, that keeps asking you to use it? Would uninstalling MS Messenger screw up Internet Explorer or Windows XP? Please let me know if you know.
