Does anyone know how to get rid of spam mail from your e-mail thing, if you know what I mean, cos I'm getting a lot of irrelivent stuff, and it's annoying.

There is a program about called Mail Washer that you might be interested in - makes it look to junk mailers like your email doesn't exist, from what I've heard. Now, if only I had a link to it...

If you're using Hotmail, go to the Options tab and set the SPAM filter to maximum. If that doesn't work there are tons of programs on the net which help combat the problem.

This can be dangerous as some SPAM mails contain viruses, so open them at your own risk!

Actualy, dont do that. Ever. At all. Even if the spam in question claims to be from a reputable company, the unsubscribe link generaly only confirms that your email is live. Discard the emails silently and maybe in a few decades the address will be listed as dead and removed from the list.

Yepp this works like a charm for me. Just bounce the spam off your mail server. You can find mailwasher here. Or you could get an email client that let's you do this in the program, like Pegasus Mail.

A few hard lessons I learnt from years of experience:

1. Mailwasher - filter and bounce back unwanted mails. Also helps you to avoid getting infected by E-mail viruses.

2. Discreet - Do not give away your E-mail address to people whom you do not know well. Needless to say, do not openly published your E-mail address.

3. Webmail - Get a webmail account like Yahoo and etc. If you ever need to publish your E-mail address, use the webmail account instead.

4. Newsgroups - As tempting as it may be, signing up and actively participating in newsgroups is like setting your E-mail address as a beacon for spam.

If you're going to do this, make sure you choose the option that keeps filtered mail for a week before deleting, and check it every week to make sure non-spam hasn't been filtered out. It does pick up most spam, but it often thinks non-spam is spam as well. For instance, it filters mail from other hotmail addresses

Definitely agree with Paladin re not signing up to things. If you're going to do that, a good idea is to get yourself a nonserious address, like a hotmail account, which you use to sign up to newsgroups, amazon.com, othe online shops and so on. And only use it for that, so whatever spam you get there doesn't matter. Then keep your serious address for people you trust only and never publish it anywhere. That way you can check your hotmail account every week or so and forward anything important to your real address and ignore all the spam.

Sorry for any typos. My kitten's standing in front of the monitor so I can't see what I'm typing
